In an attempt to visit a pub in VR Mall, we were told after almost running around in circles that the pub has been closed for several months.
So as I turned to my left, I saw a beautiful restaurant by the name of Toscano awaiting us and when I saw the board, I felt even happier as it was an Italian restaurant, and Italian is one of my favorite cuisines.
Toscano has a very pleasant ambiance with good lighting. There are tables and chairs in the center part of the restaurant, and sofas to the right hand side. They even have bar stools to the left hand side facing the kitchen in case you want to chose that seating option. When it came to the overall furniture, I found it very nice and appealing. A stewardess greeted us with a smile and escorted us to a table near the wall. This was the perfect place for me to click endless number of photos because the lighting was perfect too!
Our waiter Mohan came with the food and drinks menu. Since it was our first time visiting this restaurant, we asked him for suggestions. He explained the items that would be suitable for us since we wanted vegetarian options.
Complimentary bread served with pesto and tomato sauce - The bread was pillowy soft and could be eaten by itself or by spreading a few spoonfuls of the Pesto or Tomato Sauce.
Here is what we ordered for drinks and appetizer:
Green Detox - This drink was served in an unique wine glass. The colour was soothing and the taste was good too. It comprised of green apples, cucumber, celery and mint.
Lemon Iced Tea - This is my go to drink wherever I dine out, especially in the hot climate. The taller the better is what I say! Once it was served, I took a few sips to quench my thirst. It was extremely sweet and I did not have to add extra sugar.
Jalapeno Garlic Bread - The bread was shaped in an Oval, loaded with jalapenos, olives, oregano and cheese. It tasted just like a slice of pizza.
Crochette di soia - The meaning of the word Crochette is Italian style crunchy breaded dish. One portion comes with breaded and crisp fried soya sticks, onion rings, fries and saffron aioli. The soya sticks were too oily, but the onion rings and fries tasted delicious with the sauce. It's quite a heavy appetizer and can be shared by 2 to 3 people. They have this in a non - vegetarian option as well.
Main Course
With our stomach half full by the time we devoured the appetizers, we decided to order one Main Course and share it. After having a look through the menu, I decided to order the Ravioli di Spinach. Ravioli has always been one of my favorite dishes ever since I was a child. One portion came with 8 pieces of soft baked ravioli that was stuffed with spinach and cheese. The dish was extremely flavorful and I would highly recommend it. On the side, a piece of garlic bread was served.
Dessert
No meal is complete for me without eating dessert. I would rather save the main course and take it home so I have place in my stomach for dessert! I went through the menu and found a few options for vegetarian ones and when I saw the words Apple Raisin Pie, I made up my mind and ordered it.
When it was served, I found the plating to be so beautiful with a myriad of colours to make the plate look like a rainbow. Three triangle shaped pieces of pie were kept proportionately in the center, a scoop of vanilla ice cream was sitting on the left hand side of the plate and on the right hand side, were fruits and compote to add more sweetness to the dessert. The crust tasted buttery and sweet, the apples and raisins were soft and with the correct hint of cinnamon powder, this dessert was worth ordering!
Toscano is a trendy place and I would recommend you visit the next time you are at VR...
Read moreAfter tasting their peach iced tea through Swiggy, we ventured out to try the food out there. The menu looked promising with a variety of cuisines. The place is nestled in a corner on the 3rd floor of the VR mall.
It was packed as it was a Saturday afternoon. We had to wait for a couple of minutes to get a table for 2. The waiters were very warm and friendly. We were given enough time to go through the menu and place the order. We ordered sweet corn chicken soup, paneer tikka, veg lasagne and our favorite peach iced tea.
It was served fairly soon. A minor crib was that everything came together. We would have loved had they asked us when to serve what.
The sweet corn soup was delicious and the quantity was huge. Another minor crib was that it was served in 2 separate bowls as a 1/2. I clearly informed the waiter that the soup is entirely for me as my wife is a vegetarian. Probably, the information wouldn't have been passed on.
Peached iced tea was so refreshing. Veg lasagne was quite a let down as it neither had spice nor salt. I brought it to their notice when they asked us about the feedback.
They were so responsive that they offered to replace it. However, by that time we finished our lunch and were about to move. But the gentleman insisted that he offered some complimentary dessert. We agreed. We were treated with a complimentary tiramisu cheesecake. It was delicious!
So, this place has the vibes, courteous service, a variety of food and quite easy on the pocket for the ambiance it offers. All they need is a little spice! Worth checking out if you're...
Read moreTuscano was one of the restaurants that I always wanted to try but some how I was not able to make it there for years. In June 2025 i decided enough of the wait and decided to try this place for the first time. I had a great experience. I wanted to leave a 5 star rating for the Atmosphere but a very run down dining table with no polish and heavy scratches forced me to leave a 4 star only. You guys must take care of the condition of your tables as it has not polished and was full of scratches. Pls ensure this changes the next time. A clean table is the first thing a customer will notice.
We came in quite late and the staffs were still nice enough to let us in. We ordered a Guda Cheese with Pork Pepperoni with Prosocuitto Funghi and Parma Ham. Pizza with the large Pork Pieces was not upto the mark as the Pork was too thick and chewy but the other 2 Pizzas were excellent. The Pane Al' Anglio with Pepperoni was one of the best that I have had so far.
I was truly impressed with your service staffs. One particular staff who truly impressed me was Mr.Vanchinathan. He was simply perfect !!!!! He truly impressed us with this mannerism, service and friendly nature . I wish every restaurant had staffs like him.
I would surely come back to try the other offerings in the menu shortly. I would like Italian food lovers to try this place. It is not cheap but it is...
