I visited this restaurant on seeing the positive reviews. But then firstly the one of the staff members wasn’t nice who visited us. We wanted to sit in the centre but he was asking to sit to a side of the restaurant. Only when one of the other staff members asked us to sit, then only we were allowed to sit on our preferred table. Then, after sitting we wanted to have thali and try out other dishes. But the waiter was smart enough to say that thali won’t be possible or it would take around 40-45 mins to prepare while we can order north indian dishes in a-la-carte. Because he was calculating the price, if we four order a single thali, so we four can share and it would only cost ₹375 while if we go for a-la-carte one dish would be ₹375, obviously we would have to order three north indian dishes separately. After we realised and pointed that out to him, he went inside and came to say that fine thali can be done. But it was kind of disappointing to see the STAFF CALCULATING THE PRICING and letting customers order and not what they want. And to our surprise thali was the first thing to be served. The pulao rice in thali was way too oily. And another disappointing factor was they served KESARI BHAAT as sweet in NORTH INDIAN THALI which is a part of south indian thali. And they even had the audacity to serve the same thing in the south indian platter too even after pointing it out that the two sweets have to be different because of their different cuisines. But i feel they didn’t have the stock ready or they just wanted to fulfil the sweet option in the north indian thali so they did. It felt a WRONG CHOICE to order anything at Thamarai since their staff wasn’t willing to serve late. Then we ordered dosa which was there speciality but not upto the mark and they didn’t even had the red chutney available, but it should have been in stock because it is there speciality. Now coming to plating, it was WELL PRESENTED. Coming to the taste, it was okayish, not according to prices. I would not prefer to go again. I feel it is well rated for the experience they are giving. And not to forget, the female staff is way too polite. While i am not saying all staff is rude but the one assigned to us was not polite enough...

Thamrai Place has quickly become my go-to spot for authentic South Indian food in Lucknow, and for all the right reasons. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a cozy ambiance, warm lighting, and beautiful interiors that carry a distinct southern vibe. The place feels both modern and rooted in tradition — a perfect blend for a satisfying dine-in experience.
I've been here multiple times with friends and family, and every visit has been consistently amazing. The service is top-notch — the staff is polite, attentive, and ensures you're comfortable while your food is being prepared. One lovely touch is that they serve hot papad and rasam as a complimentary treat while you wait for your order, which really elevates the experience and keeps you engaged.
The food here is absolutely divine! The masala dosa is a must-try: crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with flavorful potato filling. I also tried the onion masala dosa, which had a beautiful crunch and a slightly sweet note from the caramelized onions — pure joy. The mini Thamrai meal was a delightful sampler that contained idli, vada and several types of chutneys with authentic sambhar which gave a taste of multiple flavors and textures, I have never tasted such good dosa and sambhar in this town before , perfect for someone who wants to explore the menu.
Another big plus is their packing quality. I've ordered takeout as well, and the food arrives hot, neatly packed, and without any spillage — a rare feat!
Overall, Thamrai Place stands out not just for its delicious food but for the care they put into every detail — from ambiance to service to presentation. Highly recommended for anyone craving genuine South Indian flavors in a warm and inviting setting.

Spacious, tastefully done interiors with arti playing in the background at the absolute perfect volume (can't stress how rare that is). Small area designated for kids to play, but very sparsely populated with toys. Hopefully that will get better. Lighting was, well, nearly perfect. Could've been slightly brighter, but acceptable. Ambience: 5/5.
There was a bit of a wait for a table, but we did eventually get one. Comfortable seating, and waiters were eager and smiling at all times. Responsive, knew their menu, and did not waste my time. They were quite obviously stretched thin by the workload and could barely complete 2 sentences and I couldn't really discuss my order. However, perfectly cordial and service was as quick as could be reasonably hoped for in a crowded spread like what we encountered. A lot of the stuff on the menu was not available for ordering - I was assured that this was a one off. Also, sambhar and chutney service didn't quite ring authentic. That plus I couldn't speak to my servers properly: 4/5 for service.
The real star of the show - the food - was excellent. It has been some time since I encountered dosas this good - the last time was in Ahmedabad at at least 5 different outlets, so good to see Lucknow finally catching up. Uttapam could have been slightly better, and the idli and vada did not seem as fresh as I would like them to be. The sambhar was excellent. Chutneys were good, have had better. We had a Ghee podi and rava masala dosa.
I had given up on dosas in Lucknow.. Food: 5/5.
**bonus: Good filter coffee.
Overall: 5/5. Doubt their prices will stay this...
