Tucked in a quiet quaint corner of the city at thiruvanmiyur a must visit place for the yummy delicious food. This is what I had today. Triple c soup - carrot, cauliflower, coconut the flavour and texture of the soup was amazing! Broccoli tater tots were like the taste bhi health bhi dish. You will love it for its taste and health quotient! Spicy tofu with coffee coulis now this is one dish that blew my mind totally tofu served with coffee, I mean really??? And I can't just explain how delicious this was, I totally totally enjoyed it! Stuffed cheese balls not a simple run of the mill but these bombs of happiness were filled with vegan cheese. Jimami tofu (peanut) burji another dish or rather ingredient I discovered today. So did you know that Japanese make their tofu from peanuts??? No I did not know, sorry! But yes I learnt it today and this most amazing burji that would give a run for the egg burji was made using peanut tofu or Jimami tofu! Creamy corn and peas pasta it was smooth, subtle and the best! Jackfruit biryani every vegetarians mock meat jackfruit definitely brings in the right flavour to the biryani. (Peanut) tofu butter masala, spinach Paratha was like a marriage made in heaven the pairing was the best. The parotta was soft and made to order . The tofu made using peanut was softer than paneer. Peanut curd rice I think I love this curd rice more than the normal one! The desserts were the most surprising factor golden kheer made of pumpkin had some amazing Indian flavours. Whereas the chocolate mousse a no cook bomb of flavour! So if you are looking at a plant based diet and wanting to enjoy good vegetarian food I would totally recommend The Viridian plate they also have a store that sells all vegan produce, go...
Read moreWe dined at the Viridian Plate over eight months ago, and the experience lingers. The first thing of note: It is a house, and not the usual glass-and-POP building. It is a classical traditional house. Very quiet, very calm. We had the host greeting us personally. Since orders had already been placed on a call, we sat back, lost in family conversation. No disturbance at all, and the host was at hand with enhancing the cosy family feeling.
I wouldn't fuss about with the food - everything is good. So, whatever one orders he/she cannot go wrong. Our food was freshly prepared, and each item came hot off the pan/wok. Delicious wouldn't capture the taste and flavours. We ate at great leisure, unhurried by the hosts who seemed to delight in the slow pace of our eating. To misquote P G Wodehouse, there was no "polite coughing", or "scraping the floor with an impatient toe"!
Their speciality Orange Cake was a delightful revelation for dessert - we understood this was a house speciality. We relished it. They have other options for dessert, too.
I would strongly discourage 'parcels' and 'takeaways' - the experience is as much the place and atmosphere as the food. I wouldn't think of a doggie-bag, either. Lick the plate if you must, but finish everything there and then!
Go, amble in, loll around, chat, eat all you want, lick your fingers, gently burp, stretch, and leave thinking of when your next visit should be.
Of course, pay before...
Read moreWe had a wonderful and calm experience while dining at one of the very few vegan outlets in the OMR locality. The starters options that we opted were pan fried ( Tikki and Tater Tots ) and their in-house dip for the same was superb , the crunchy peanut salad was very fresh and robust in peanut taste as well as texture. For our mains we went firstly with the Ajwain poori and the aloo masala served alongside was superb. The Coriander rice and Jackfruit briyani that we had were good. We personally felt that the briyani was a little spicy and had extra masala for our pallate but it's a big hit amongst many. Dessert wise the carrot halwa is a must try , I was fascinated by the incorporation of vegan products to substitute from the usual ghee and milk that we use regularly, it's simply superb with jaggery instead of white sugar and the Hot Chocolate was a personal favourite of mine due to the rich coco taste which was very comforting to taste. Overall, I would suggest many more people to venture out and give this place a shot ! The service by Mr Shankar on the day was brilliant and he was very patient to explain and address our queries. Food preparation time takes about 15 mins or so as I believe they make everything fresh upon orders so that's a head up ! Thanks for the lovely experience team , look forward to...
