The Patiala House in Chetpet has been gaining some good name for itself over the past few months and it quickly came in to my radar..But was able to visit them only recently and that too after learning that they are a part of PIND which is my favorite north indian Veg restaurant in the city..The restaurant is located on the Spurtank road just before the Abid's..Has some decent parking space and guess Valet is also available..
The Restaurant is reached through quite a small door and once you enter you are greeted by cramped dining area..The Ambiance which resembles PIND and Bhatinda Express but here i feel its a bit too much as it feels a bit chaotic and add it with a full house you are in for a hard time..The Service is another issue at hand that needs some improvement..The waiting time being less is the only advantage..Right from the Manager to the servers need to learn to smile at first for the guests to feel a bit welcoming..Long sad faces only questions our presence there..
Tried quite a few items and given below is my take on them..
Hot n Sour Soup : Started off with a Hot and Sour soup which was on the diluted side and seemed a bit bland in taste..Definitely not a start we would have wanted..
Cheese Corn Balls : Served with a helping of french Fries these were crispy balls filled with cheesy corn and were really good in taste..Must try..
Baby Corn Manchurian : Loved this one as it was really well made with crispy fried baby corn with perfect spicing..Then it was sauteed with veggies and topped with some spring onion leaves..The taste was just too good..
Chili Paneer : Fried Paneer cubes cooked in a spicy chili sauce along with other veggies..Spicy to the core and was a delight for my sore throat..
Tandoori Broccoli : Broccoli tandoori cooked in a hariyali masala which was a bit off..The Hariyali paste lacked any taste whatsoever and was quite raw..And the absence of salt and spiciness put it off..
Paneer Tikka : The Panner at Pind is really good and i hear it is home made and here too it was no different and hence can be rated as one of the best in chennai..
Tiranga Paneer Tikka : Had Malai, Hariyali and Achari Paneer Tikka in a single plate..The Malai was really good and was cheesy and yummy in taste..The Achari was spicy and quite good..The Hariyali however was not that good and had the same issue as the broccoli..The huge plus here too was also the Paneer pieces..
Afgani Mushrrom Tikka : This was on the spicier side and i expected it to be a cashew based one but nevertheless it was good in taste and for a mushroom lover like me it was a bliss..
Peas Pulav : Though it tasted decent something was missing in it..Only when i combined it with some Daal Makhni i was able to relish it..
Vegetable Biryani : Not a fan and hence didnt like it much..It also seemed more wet than it needed to be..Taste wise decent..
Mini Bread Basket : Assorted Breads in a basket..Garlic Naan was my absolute favorite with the stuffed parantha coming second..Other items too were good in taste..
Daal Makhni : Absolute Best..Cant say more and a must try for sure...Yummy to the core..
Shahi Paneer : Rich paneer bassed gravy topped with loads of cream and was really good in taste..
Veg Banjara : Green Vegetable based gravy topped with generous helping of grated cheese..Too good..
Desserts : finished the Meal with Gulab Jamun, Rabdi and Kulfi all which were decent in taste to say the max with the rabdi being the best..
Spl Lassi Topped with loads of dry fruits was a absolute winner.. Must try..
Overall the spread was one of the best veg spreads had in recent time with the paneer being the best of the lot.. The Soft and Moist paneer cubes is something you need to try for sure.. All other items are good and this place will definitely be a bliss for vegetarians...The service is one place where there needs to be...
Read moreVisited The Parialahouse today for lunch with family on the occasion of my sons birthday. We had called 2 days in advance to reserve a table. We reached the restaurant on time and as there was no host at the door entered the restaurant. As it was early there were hardly any guests. Considering that i had reserved the table in advance , my expectation was that the table will be ready and we will be welcomed , however we shocked by the attitude of the staff (Mr Vikas) who wanted me to wait outside the restaurant until he checks for reservation. There was no warmth or smile and i felt he was doing me a favour by allowing us to dine in his restaurant. I mentioned that i will not wait outside where there were delivery boys from food aggregators considering the current covid..he then asked if all guest have come and when i mentioned that they are on the way he again asked me to wait outside and when i asked why i had to wait outside he mentioned that my booking was at 1:30 PM and not at 12:15 PM. I had enough and mentioned that i am happy to leave as this was not the only place and that i did not understathe reason for his indifferent attitude and also to check if there is a reservation for 12:15. When he again checked he realised he had goofed up as my reservation was indded there at 12:15 . He finally llet us to proceed to the seating area but did not even have the courtesy to apologise for his behaviour. Coming to the ambience , there restaurant givesna real dhaba feeling..the decors are quite rustic and the seating area is spacious. In terms ofnfood , the restaurant serves vegetarian punjabi food..the food is authentic and the variety is mind blowing. We had the special lassi which was excellent..for starters we called the paneer platter (must have) which had 4 different variety of paneer and seek kabab and tandoor cauliflower and mushroom and potatoes..it was really filling and the paneer was really soft (similar to punjab). For mains we had garlic naans and paneer butter masala and black dal..again all the dishes were very well made. We did not go for desert as we had already eaten to the brim but there were some good options in kulfi , gajjar halwa and moong halwa. In terms of service the waiters were pleasent but the preparation time is a bit slow (but taste of the food compensates it) Overall except for the initial behaviour of Mr Vikas , it was a good experience and if you want to go for authentic VEG punjabi food in the heart of the city then I would definitely recommend patiala house. The restaurant has ample parking too. The 3 stars was only due to the unpleasant behaviour of the staff and is not reflective of the taste...
Read moreThis is my second visit to The Patiala House exactly after a year and a half. And trust me when I say this, they are truly consistent in their quality, quantity and service. A 5* for sure.
We went for a family lunch and we were a group of 11 people. The pre-booking was so hassle free and we got our spaces reserved and had an amazing dine - in experience.
Food that we ordered are:
Masala Papad - Nothing too special or no big complaints but this is like a must try when you visit north - Indian restaurants. (Rs. 90)
Tandoori Khazana - A great assorted platter with paneer, mushroom, aloo and veg seekh kebabs where every item tasted really good. This is a great choice to order if you don't want to just try one dish. (Rs. 680)
Paneer Tikka - Juicy yet super soft melt in mouth paneer pieces well marinated and cooked to perfection for sure. A treat for paneer lovers. (Rs. 260)
Malai Soya Chaap - Being a biggggg fan of chaaap I just loved this. Go for it only if you like a hint of sweetness in your savoury food. This was so creamy, rich and with a hint of sweetness. Love this. (Rs. 290)
Cheese corn Balls - Tasted good with good amount of cheese and was served with ketchup, so no big complaints here as well. (Rs. 260)
For the main course we went ahead with,
Patiyala Tandoori Basket - It had assorted Naans, stuffed parathas and rotis which were all amazing. I guess there were around 16 pieces of bread. (Rs. 620)
For curries we went ahead with, Punjabi paneer masala (Rs. 290), Veg patiyala (Rs. 260) and Mushroom Do pyaaz (Rs. 270). All the curries were amazing and the quantity was perfect for all the Assorted Naan basket.
Another must try is their Special dum biriyani with right amount of spice, masala and the taste was so good. (Rs.240)
Their Punjabi masala beer, jal jeera Pani and lemon soda were great too.
Finally a huge shout out to their dessert range and special mention to their Rabdi. It had the right sweetness and loved every bite of it. We did try the gulab jamun and death by chocolate is a must try for the chocolate lovers out there.
Our bill total came upto 5900 ish inclusive of tax. This was a huge surprise considering the quality and quantity of food we ordered, as we did order few dishes multiple times. This could be broken down to Rs. 536 approx. per person.
Their service was great, ambience was good and the food was amazing.
Definitely a must try if you love North Indian food, want to hang out as a group and approximately 550 is your...
