Madras Coffee House at MGR Chennai Central Railway Station offers a refreshing break for travelers seeking quality food amidst the hustle of train journeys. I recently tried their Veg Biryani (₹125) and the trademark filter coffee (₹35), and both lived up to expectations.
The Veg Biryani, priced reasonably, was surprisingly flavorful, a railway station eatery. It had a good balance of spices, fresh vegetables, that made it a delightful meal. Compared to railway station food options, this biryani out in terms of both taste and quality. The portion size was sufficient, making it a hearty choice for travelers looking for a fulfilling meal.
The highlight, however, was their filter coffee, which lives up to the Madras Coffee House's reputation. At ₹35, it delivers the perfect blend of strong decoction and creamy froth, offering a traditional South Indian coffee experience. The aroma and taste make it an ideal pick-me-up, especially during long travel hours.
The service was efficient, and the space, though bustling, was clean and well-maintained. For those passing through MGR Chennai Central, Madras Coffee House is a reliable option for a quick, tasty, and reasonably priced meal. It’s a must-visit for coffee...

I ordered a rava kichdi which was priced Rs. 72/- but I got the bill for Rs 106/- on checking I found that vada had been added to the bill. When I asked the cashier he told me it was a combo. I told him but I asked only for Rava kichdi to which he rudely replied we sell only combo sir. I then asked him to show where it was written. He then lowered his voice and politely agreed for a refund for vada. Coming to the food. Upma and sambar was okayish. The coconut chutney was bad it smelled and tasted horrible.
