It’s honestly disheartening to write this review. Having been a loyal customer for over two decades, I never imagined I’d see Mathsya drop to this level. The quality, the service, and the hospitality — everything that once made this place special — have all declined with time. It’s simply not our Mathsya anymore. What pains me most is the lack of respect and warmth from the staff. The ones allotting tables seem indifferent, and the serving staff carry a visibly poor attitude. The sambhar — once the pride of the meal — has lost its charm completely.
The efficiency that Mathsya was once famous for, especially in managing crowds and ensuring timely service, is nowhere to be found today. If you’re seated in the mini halls (not the main one), you can forget about getting a second serving of sambhar without chasing the staff 5–6 times. It’s chaotic, unorganized, and frustrating. I even saw a few guests arguing with the manager — something I’ve never witnessed before here.
What’s worse is the attitude of the senior staff — they still behave as if Mathsya is at the top of its game, completely ignoring the current reality. This arrogance reflects in the way they talk to customers.
I visited yesterday around 8:30 PM when the restaurant was more than half empty. I requested to be seated inside while waiting for my parents (who were 10–15 minutes away), since the lobby had no air-conditioning. The staff member at the counter refused bluntly, without a hint of courtesy or consideration.
As a family, we’ve already started visiting Mathsya far less frequently. And at this rate, I’m sure many others who’ve been regulars for years will eventually feel the same way too.
I know several hoteliers who take up such reviews thinking it's fake or a spam but be rest assured that it's actually coming from a customer himself. Request the owner / management to accept this fair and harsh reality than thinking about...
Read moreYesterday Mathsya Egmore not only gave us tasty food but a bitter experience of 3 full hours. we 7 of us went around 1.30 pm but after ONE HOUR , around 2.45 pm only they gave us table !! (uncleaned). ( before that few others who came after us were called, we asked manager he dint help us) The order was taken at 3.00 pm , which was as per their wish. because they said except Birbal lunch all other lunch exhausted. ok without any other option we ordered 6 birbal lunch. It was served at around 3.20. But meantime we noticed that the south indian meals was served in the next table. We called manager , he did not come again. Ok we ended with Birbal lunch .. but alas!! No sweet in two plates and without one sidedish in one plate and no curd rice in one plate. We called the manager again he did not come. But ok, that was served after telling the server. Even then... at the time of asking the bill only we asked why no icecream is included in the Birbal Lunch when even for an ordinary lunch they include icecream in common hotels? The server told it is there for Birbal lunch and then he went inside to bring.. We got wild and again called the manager for the N'th time but he dint even respond. But the icecream and bill came simultaneously. We settled the bill , ignored the icecream and walked out. We went to Mathsya Hotel to have happy memories and better lunch instead of having our routine lunch brought from home but the experience was only bitter only. our get togather gave us fun and so we left the hotel with those pleasant memories... I am not very sure of the purpose of sharing this experience here but atleast i get a kind of satisfaction after...
Read moreIt was a bad experience at Mathsya today. I went with family for dinner and ordered the following
Soup: Manchow and Tomato Starters: Nachos and Vegetable Manchurian Main course: Rasam Vada, Dosa, mini idly, and Golkonda Biryani
I'll come to service and atmosphere a little later.
Review of food
Soups were completely bland, it felt like we were having corn starch water with boiled vegetables
Nachos were supposed to come with white sauce, the quantity was so less that we had to scrape for the sauce. Upon speaking to manager, no heed was given, this is what it is was their response. Completely disappointed.
Veg Manchurian was good but quantity was less for the prices they serve it for.
Rasam Vada was the star of the show. Dosa, Idly was good, no complaints but nothing great to cover for the disappointing experience.
Golkonda rice was good but quantity again was not worth the prices they charge.
Coming to service:
Get ready to request repeatedly for extra chutney and sambar. Asking once will just not pull it off.
Mgmt has gone down hill, I already covered the experience with Nachos.
It was as if they were doing us a favor by just serving food.
Atmosphere:
We were 8 people, so they gave us a corner area, it was dark and gloomy. We requested for space in a comparatively better spot but it was denied (quite rudely)
All in all a very bad experience from Service to food and atmosphere, would not be going back over here again.
For those who cannot eat spicy food, this place is still not recommended as the quantity and service is terrible.
I did not click pictures as we were thoroughly disappointed.
Would rate this 1 because that's the lowest...
