We had dinner there last night and I'm still in disbelief about the sheer incompetence and the lack of quality standards in this place. I had to take a few hours to digest my experience (both literally and figuratively).
We ordered the focaccia platter, an aglio e olio pasta, a vegetable lasagna and a pizza. Let me paint you a picture of how terrible each dish was.
Focaccia platter: The bread served on the platter was simply not focaccia bread. It was thin, crusty, and had none of the airiness of good focaccia. What we got were four thin crumbs on the platter, a sorry pesto dip and unnecessarily heavy ricotta cheese that tasted suspiciously like processed cheese.
The vegetable lasagna: The description for this item on their menu mentions ratatouille and signature pomodoro sauce, along with bechamel and cheese. Looks like the vegetables in the ratatouille went on a holiday and took the pomodoro sauce with them, because the lasagna was simply pasta sheets bathed in nauseating amounts of bechamel sauce and low-quality cheese. They killed the entire spirit of making lasagna, which involves beautiful layering with the said sauce and stuffing. Instead, what we got was a despicable mess of pasta sheets with oodles of heavy cream and cheese.
Aglio e olio: Fun fact — aglio e olio means garlic and olive oil. Interestingly, these two ingredients were either missing or were added in disgustingly low quantities in a dish that revolves around them. Instead, what we got was another sorry lump of creamy, cheese pasta that completely killed the true essence of good aglio e olio pasta.
The pizza: I'll keep this short and simple. Their pizza is not Italian. It's American. No pizza sauce whatsoever. Just a mess of processed cheese dumped on the pizza bread.
Beyond the food, Impasta lacks professionalism in several other areas. The service, the wait times and the way they pack the food leaves A LOT to be desired.
Service and wait times: They'll keep you waiting for 45 minutes to an hour and then give all the items you ordered in one go. I noticed this happened for all the tables that were occupied when I was there. Keeping the customers waiting for extended periods and then dumping all the food ordered in one go clearly shows they don't know scheduling and order management. Also, who serves the beverage/dessert before the main course even arrives? They've got the order delivery all messed up.
Packing the extra food: With all the bucketloads of cheese thrown on the food and with how they dumped it on our table after an hour of waiting, we couldn't stomach the pizza fully. So, we decided to pack up whatever slices were remaining. Imagine my shock when I received the remaining slices stuffed one on top of the other in a small plastic box. They were stuck to each other and completely ruined an already subpar pizza. Have they not heard of a pizza box?
No pro-active or receptive behaviour: It appears that customers have had similar complaints from 2-3 years ago. The fact that Impasta has still not changed their ways indicates sheer indifference to feedback from customers. Either they don't care about what customers are saying, or they think they're too cool for school. Neither of these reflects well on the Impasta team.
Word of advice: Impasta team, you should send your chefs back to school to learn the essence of Italian food. Or, you should rename your place to Imposter. That would better reflect what...

Read moreAt last, a proper fresh, handmade pasta spot at Chennai. Fresh pasta was long overdue in a place like Chennai and this restaurant definitely fills that void. We went for dinner on a Sunday, the restaurant wasn't quite crowded, but still had decent crowd. The ambience was really good and the outdoor seating was cool. Coming to the dishes, they don't have much options when it comes to starters. We had only 4-5 options to choose from. We had the garlic breads, risotto balls and bolognese croquettes. All 3 were outstanding and definitely worth the price. They had a special chicken bangers and mash, which were good too. The main course is where it was a bit of a let down because the price they charge and the quantity they served for it was ridiculous. Exactly 6 pieces of agnolotti for 500 bucks is too much. The quantity was very less and when we complained about it to the staff, they said they're working on it and it's taking time as they had just reopened after the lockdown. Nevertheless, definitely not value for money. But taste wise, everything was delicious and definitely left us wanting more. But the real star of the day was the desserts. Again they had limited options only, but the tiramisu as well as the basque cheesecake- out of the world. Couldn't describe them in words. Heavenly!!! If u don't mind overpriced pasta which come in baby portions, then yeah, u can visit them. But if they had increased the quantity or reduced the price in the menu, then a definite...
