An Unforgettable Dining Experience at Nithya Amirtham Nungambakkam Outlet
Dining at a restaurant often promises a delightful escape from the routine, offering an opportunity to indulge in culinary delights and enjoy exceptional service. However, my recent visit to the Nithya Amirtham outlet in Nungambakkam turned out to be a far cry from this expectation. What was anticipated as an enjoyable South Indian meal experience quickly spiraled into an unfortunate ordeal, primarily due to the inadequately trained staff and their lack of familiarity with traditional serving customs.
The ambiance of Nithya Amirtham initially seemed inviting, with its comfortable seating and decor reflecting traditional South Indian aesthetics. However, the real disappointment began with the service. The waiter assigned to our table was a North Indian gentleman who appeared unfamiliar with the intricacies of serving a South Indian thali. This lack of knowledge became glaringly evident as soon as the meal was served.
South Indian meals, especially those served on a banana leaf, follow a specific tradition. Each dish has its designated place on the leaf, which not only maintains the presentation but also enhances the dining experience by keeping flavors distinct until they are meant to be combined by the diner. The waiter, however, was unaware of this practice. He indiscriminately mixed everything on the banana leaf, leading to a chaotic and unappetizing mess.
The rasam, which is typically served separately and savored on its own or with rice, was poured over the sambar. This not only diluted the flavors of both but also created a confusing blend that was far from appetizing. The kootu and poriyal, usually placed carefully on the sides, were haphazardly piled on top of each other, resembling aviyal rather than distinct dishes. This mishmash destroyed the individual essence of each preparation, rendering the meal an unpalatable mixture.
Such an experience not only marred the enjoyment of the meal but also highlighted a significant gap in staff training at Nithya Amirtham. The lack of proper training for the waitstaff, particularly in understanding and respecting traditional serving methods, is a critical issue that needs immediate attention. Dining is not merely about food; it is an experience that encompasses service, presentation, and respect for culinary traditions.
To rectify this, it is imperative that the restaurant management undertakes a comprehensive training program for its staff. This program should include:
Cultural and Culinary Education: Waitstaff should be educated about the cultural significance and traditional serving practices of the dishes they serve. Understanding the nuances of South Indian cuisine and its presentation can greatly enhance the dining experience for customers.
Practical Training Sessions: Conduct hands-on training sessions where staff can practice serving meals correctly under the supervision of experienced trainers. This should include the proper placement of dishes on a banana leaf and the correct sequence of serving.
Customer Interaction Skills: Training should also focus on improving communication skills, ensuring that staff can interact politely and effectively with customers, understand their preferences, and provide a personalized dining experience.
Regular Feedback and Improvement: Implement a system for regular feedback from customers and continuous improvement based on this feedback. This will help in identifying areas that need further attention and in maintaining high service standards.
By addressing these areas, Nithya Amirtham can significantly improve its service quality, ensuring that customers enjoy a dining experience that respects and celebrates the rich culinary traditions of South India. Dining out should be a joyous occasion, and with the right training and attention to detail, the restaurant can transform a disappointing experience into a memorable and...
Read moreA well executed multi cuisine restaurant which I am experiencing after a pretty long time.
We had ordered the eternal meals, Punjabi thali for our elder people and it didn't disappoint us it was so neat and the quantity of the items were perfect to the level.
We then went for a veg wonton clear soup, Generally most of the multi cuisine restaurants will do a lot of blunders when it comes to Chinese, but they didn't disappoint us here, the soup was neat and clear as mentioned in the name itself, the dumplings where soft and we'll steamed to correct temperature it was not hard at all and the soup was served at the right temperature.
For starters we wanted to try something different from the bunch, since the whole menu had a lot of varieties which was unique when compared to other places where they display the usual items displayed in the menu . So we went for Pudhina baby corn fry and Seiva meen pozhichadhu (Paneer).
The baby corn was out of the world, the concept of gelling mint with corn was good and it was crispy at its perfection, not much oil was sucked into the corn and was served hot and neat. Paneer pozhichadhu was a good try for us, even though the tomato curry which was on top of the paneer resembled our home made thakalli thoku, but there the Correct amount of coconut oil essence which gave that Kerala touch to it.
For the main course we went for the Assorted bread basket, Hyderbadi dum biriyani, Malai Kofta Spicy variant and Kadai panner.
For me this is the first time where I am seeing an assorted basket option for the breads which had one piece of every paratha variant right from hariyali paratha, usual one, usual naan, a special naan which had cheese inside it.
The Malai Kofta Spicy variant was a shocker to me, generally restaurants used to serve the sweet one, here the spicy Variant, even though it had the same kofta balls been soaked into the usual red/orange gravy instead of the sweet white one, but the difference they bought in the choice of menu was nice and it taste good too. The kadai panner was a usual hit to our taste buds.
Coming to hyderbadi biriyani, this is one another dish which most of the restaurants used to do a lot of blunders, by adding extra masala, ghee, spices like elachi, clove and sometimes even more fried onions, but here they served the perfect one , where everything was neat to its level and quantity, the rice and gravy gelled together so well.
Finally to end this good feast we ordered gulab jamun, my general take on jamun is , it's always a bliss when they are served hot and not cold, so if possible please do try to serve them hot next item, the taste was good, but jamuns go well when they are hot only.
And a small note to the hotel management associates, you guys can fix your servicing style and time management, we can understand it was a peak time and holiday, but the service and time management was little poor, the time they took to serve the bread and gravy and rice literally took more than 50 mins after they served the starters. But they were hot when it was served, but please do work on your time management alone.
A good place to have a good time with your family friends, a well lit ambience too, the cutleries were clean and neat and I liked the design of their plates which they serve when you order dishes like Bread, Rice, Noodles or any other main course...
