Jade by Todd English, Canggu, Bali: Todd English’s stylish venture in the swishy part of Bali, Canggu sets the style bar so high, many of the chic-chic restaurants blush in deference. We came here last year during Nyepi Day and met a firmly shut door. So yay we finally sauntered past the terracotta red door, past the blue-lit fire cauldrons, into the glass house with deep velvety blues, romantic orange lights and jade green. The interior is faultlessly luxe and the lights are standout exquisite. The bar is astounding and the space is absolutely jaw-dropping. The plantation negroni was good enough (I had really awesome ones at Secana Rooftop 1 or 1, so this was a little meh). Dishes are small in portions so if you’re a big hitter, dash out don’t wait. Tuna tataki was so beautiful and dainty. Sitting on a thin cracker, then carefully dissected into 4 delicious parts. Pea gyoza was pretty in looks and the sauce was wicked, well balanced the slightly bitter pea mash. The most disappointing was the teriyaki octopus, which was supposed to be the highlight of my evening. Although it turned heads, it was so tough that the serrated knife we were armed with nearly flew out of my hands. It was so overcooked. I flagged this to the staff who didn’t do any recovery. Pineapple cheesecake was flaming fun - I always love anything flaming. But the pineapple was rather overwhelming in taste although it was the first blend of flavours I have ever tasted. As it was my birthday, I had a chocolate lava blowout cake with sparklers. Thank you for the lovely surprise. If you want a swishy night out, definitely put this down on your ritz list. Fingers crossed they don’t tough up your octopus....

Let me start by saying you have done a wonderful job at making such a beautiful restaurant. But I think for a restaurant to truly run smoothly honest feedback is required. We had a really terrible dining experience at Jade last week.

The restaurant was almost completely completely empty. We booked for a table of six. Three of us ordered very expensive steaks and the rest pasta.

The staff brought the pasta out to three of us. But the other three were left without their food. We continued to ask what was going on. We waited and waited as our pasta got cold.

Almost 40 minutes passed and the steaks have still not come out. You should never bring half a tables meals out and make 30 to 40 minutes before bringing the other peoples food. This was a terrible experience. We are waiting around for 30 or 40 minutes for their food after we had already eaten our dinner.

For how expensive steak is at this restaurant this should not be how the dinner went . I just wanted to give some feedback to prevent this from happening again and so that the people who run the restaurant know from a customers perspective why it was bad. I also sent a email w the complaint...
