KOI JAPANESE RESTAURANT — Restaurant in Bali

Do NOT order the California XL roll - nothing but rice. Had a good dinner here, had one sashimi @65k for 5 pieces, good quality 👍 Another couple of dishes tuna/chicken which were nice. Then came the California XL roll, costing 100k.. Now, maybe it was because they have "15% off all sushi" at the moment so they are trying to cut costs. But, the pieces were 95% rice; the salmon pieces were literally - no joking - smaller than the finger nail on my little finger. And there was no crab meat at all, just tiny piece of salmon and tiny piece of cucumber. Wish I had taken a photo as it almost defied belief. Was more salmon in half of one of the sashimi pieces than in all 8 pieces of the California XL roll - the XL by the way apparently meaning they just wrap a ton more rice around it. I didn't see the standard California roll so can't compare the meat content there - but have to imagine it would be the same since it literally wouldn't be possible to put less. That price was 60K (I think) so basically doubling price just to add a lot of rice. "Disgraceful" is the best word that comes to mind. I've been wondering what experience can i have from this restaurant, so i finally give it a chance to try.

The place was nicely lit, not too big but not too small. They have outdoor and not too many indoor.

The staff greeted nicely and they know what to recommend.

The food selection is quite different than any other japanese food, they dont have many standard menu such as katsu don or selection of bento. But I'm still intrigued to try.

So i try their chicken kara age and oyako don. The kara age was 3 big pieces and the breading is deliciously spiced, its simple but very good appetizer. The Oyako don may looks a bit pale for me, but when i try it, it was actually delicious.. nothing was too overwhelming and it has certain balance it. It has good flavour, good portion and perfect aftertaste..

Overall, this place is nice to dine with family, date or friends.. I would definitely coming back to...

So I read some of the other reviews, four stars some even less. Absolutely ridiculous. I love sushi I travel all over the world. And for the price I just don’t think you could beat this. I come from the USA, and if this restaurant was there it would be four times the price.

I’ve had the mix sashimi, I’ve had rolls, edamame, miso soup, smoothies every single thing is absolutely on point and delicious.

I highly recommend it. The setting is pretty cool to because there’s parking in the front which is really easy for scooters and cars. There’s some trees it’s a beautiful setting. Everything about this place is magnificent. More so if you go inside there’s Aircon yes air-conditioning inside I love it!
