I visited Mosto three years ago, and I absolutely loved it. Everything was perfect: the food, the vibe, the service. I left that night completely in love with the place and kept talking about it for years. I even considered it my favorite restaurant. So when I came back to Bali after all this time, I was super excited to go back and have that amazing experience again. Unfortunately, it was nothing like I remembered.
I had made a reservation and even requested welcome drinks ahead of time. When we arrived, we were quickly rushed to our table and asked if we wanted water. After ordering, we waited 10 minutes with no drinks, so I had to ask again. Five minutes later, the drinks finally arrived. The welcome drinks? We had to remind them again to bring those. For a restaurant like this, you'd expect better service.
The waiter didn’t seem to know much about the wine we ordered and completely misunderstood us when we asked about it (lack of English). While we were eating, the owner and some staff kept walking past our table, stopping to chat with a regular guest next to us. It felt like the kind of place that cares more about being trendy than giving guests a good experience. The staff seemed stressed and disorganized, bumping into tables without saying sorry and dropping off dishes without a word.
Now, the food.
We started with the hummus and focaccia. The hummus was actually really good, with a nice caramel-like twist, though they went overboard with the olive oil. The focaccia, though, was a big letdown—greasy and bland, more like American white bread than anything resembling real focaccia.
Next was the tuna tartare. The fish was fresh, but it tasted pretty standard—something you’d find at any average restaurant here for a lot less money.
Then we had gnocchi with cheese sauce. Honestly, it was just... boring. No flavor, no excitement. It felt like eating something just to fill up.
The steak was probably the biggest disappointment. I love salty food—like, I drink salt water in the morning. But this steak was so salty it was almost inedible. Plus, it was covered in a strange sauce that completely masked the taste of the meat. The fries were crispy and a bit different, though nothing particularly delicious.
We finished with the chocolate mousse. It tasted like something you’d buy from a supermarket. Not terrible, just really basic—definitely not what you'd expect from a high-end place like this.
I left feeling sad and disappointed. I’d been looking forward to this night for years, and the experience just didn’t live up to the hype I had in my head. I’m still in Bali for another month, and I really hope Mosto can get back to the quality it once had. I’d love to go back and fall in love with it again—but right now, I don’t...

At Mosto - a self-proclaimed Neo Bistro, we had an amazing dining experience with fantastic service! The meal started with a crispy crostoni topped with shoyu burnt butter, anchovies l’escala, and a hit of Sichuan pepper – such a great balance of salty and spicy. The chicken liver paté was rich and flavorful, paired perfectly with the wine, onions, capers, and fresh herbs 🌿, we even ordered extra bread.
A real highlight was the fried cauliflower – so good we had to encore it! The almond tarator, tamarind, and sour yogurt added an addictive tangy twist. Next up was the tagliolini with sambal arrabbiata – the sambal really brought out a bold and fiery flavor, making this dish a standout 🌶️.
The wagyu bavette steak with curried butter was juicy and perfectly executed, and the crispy 1000-layer fries were impossible to resist 🍟. For dessert, the chocolate terrine with crème fraîche and salt flakes was a bit underwhelming, but the ricotta sundae with frangelico and jackfruit was delicious – though a bit too filling, definitely a dish to share!

Read moreWe were really looking forward dining here. Food was good, price were reasonable but unfortunately the experience was unpleasant.
When we came in, my helper who is a Muslim Indonesian asked the staff if she can dine here with her own food. We ASKED FIRST before doing it. The staff said ok.
Shortly after, came another staff who told us that we are not supposed to bring in outside food. I repeated the same thing my helper is a Muslim Indonesian she don't take non halal restaurant food.
If this was highlighted by the FIRST staff who attended to us there will be a cakage or corkage fee, I SWEAR I would have told my helper to eat later.
When the bill came, my husband mentioned that there's a cakage fee for our helper who ate her halal food in the restaurant so I brought it up to the chef. He said I was rude bringing outside food into his restaurant and his staff MISUNDERSTOOD that it was for my kids who wanted to consume own food. My helper asked in Indonesian language if she can eat her food here how's that a misunderstood?
Anyway, he waived off IDR50K of cakage fee but I wouldnt come back again because the chef's gave me an...
