UPDATE! : I came back for their sunday brunch! I knew their foods are good. I had chicken and fish. Both were tasty, seasoned well, texture was nice, juicy. for the desert the creme caramel is still my all time favorite. I ordered mimosa for the drink, I believe it was wine and blood orange, so refreshing. and end it with coffee 👌 I honestly will come back for their food. (photos with brighter light are recent photos I took from the brunch)
I came to Lulu twice for dinner previously. I came back cause the food was great. Yet the third time I came was for a pop up event hosted by chef Rahel. I came with quite expectation comparing to Lulu's food standard, but that night I was just a bit confuse with everything. Not that the food was terrible, but the fact that no one really explaining about the food then makes it hard to justify the menu and especially the price they charged (I paid around 895k/1pax for the set menu and 1 cocktail). The rujak dip was really leaving an impression on me that they might rush the RnD? With so many variety of rujak dip in Indonesia, ended up with melting sugar with some chili was a little bit too....... simplified, dont you think? I wish they push further on their RnD with this pricing. I kinda lost in the food palate as well; the sauteed vegetables taste like a dish i can found at chinese food restaurant. It tasted okay but was it intentional? I dont know. So again, I wish there are more stories about the food to be shared that then makes sense of everything. I would loveeee to know about the story/history/idea, anything! really. The fact that I dont know whose food I was eating also makes me hard to address this confusion - was it Lulu's? was it Rahel's? Like, who approved on the final selection of menu and taste, I am not sure. I wasnt succeed trying to reach out Lulu nor chef Rahel on instagram. I really curious about the menu. Like how it end up that way. But anyway, just want to say it such a shame there were no conversation able to be done after the event/during the event. Well however, the pandan flan was really nice though. I really liked it! Please make more of those. I hope Rahel doing more events in Indonesia with more conversation about her food and I hope Lulu can keep on making great food in the future. More food with more and better...

Canggu’s no longer just about the surf; it’s become a dining destination in its own right. There’s so much choice now that picking a place to eat can feel like choosing which wave to catch—daunting, to say the least. The quality is top-notch, and you can find dishes from just about every corner of the globe alongside some truly stellar local spots. But let’s be honest, even in paradise, sometimes you crave something that isn’t rice or noodles.
Now, here’s an unspoken rule among travelers: the best local spots are where the locals eat. But what if you’re not in the mood for local? I think I’ve stumbled upon a new rule—go where the chefs hang out. Lulu seems to be that kind of place. Within half an hour, I ran into three different chefs from three different great restaurants. And they’re regulars. My expectations immediately shot through the roof.
Lulu Bistrot offers a terrace, a bar, and a restaurant all dripping with Parisian café vibes, blending traditional and modern elements in both its design and its culinary offerings. Paris is one of my favorite cities, and walking into Lulu felt like stepping into a grand bistro along one of its boulevards. But unlike the stereotypically surly Parisian waiters, the staff here are as warm and welcoming as a glass of good wine. The vibe? Think less Parisian aloofness, more the lively, unpretentious charm of a tapas bar in Barcelona.
For me, the best seat in the house is at the kitchen counter, where chefs @ryantheja and @austinmilans serve up a special tasting menu called ‘comptoir des chefs.’ It’s immediately clear that this kitchen team is well-trained, passionate about top-quality ingredients, and deeply respectful of French cooking techniques. But they’re not afraid to throw in a local twist when it makes sense—not to be different, but because the local product is often more sustainable and, frankly, better.
Lulu is the kind of casual dining spot that suits any occasion, whether you’re after a quick pasta and a glass of wine or a more lingering meal. This is no tourist trap; everything here is on point. The high-end kitchen staff deliver well-balanced, straightforward dishes that fit the mood—whatever it may be. It’s the kind of place where, if you’re in the know, you’ll find yourself coming back...
