Muda By/Suka — Restaurant in Bali

TL;DR/ A true perfect 5-5 and a must try experience in Canggu. Everything from the service, food to atmosphere was on point.

My partner and I initially wanted to head over to Smoke for dinner but their kitchen was closed and the security guard recommended us to try Muda instead, and boy it was such a good recommendation.

Service - Tattoo was the name of our server. From the moment we sat down, Tattoo introduced himself and was warm, interactive and personal. We asked for some recommendations and mentioned that we are hungry and would like the starters to be out ASAP. It was already 10pm and we haven’t eaten dinner so we were famished. Tattoo got the kitchen to send out 2 complimentary tuna amuse-bouche while we waited for the starters to come out. It was suggest a pleasant surprise and a warm gesture — he didn’t had to do it, but he did it anyways.

Food - we ordered the grilled prawns, pork skewers, wagyu dumplings and charcoal chicken. The prawns were my partner’s favorite and I can see why, they were absolutely delicious and fresh. Adding nori into the mix was a genius move. A lot of time with grilled prawns, it is easy to dry out the prawns but they did an excellent job with it. My favorite was the wagyu dumplings.

Atmosphere - Eventhough their kitchen was doing their last order at 10pm (and we arrived at 9:50pm), there was no sense of rush to get any patrons out and it created a relaxing atmosphere for us to enjoy the night.

To sum it up, this is a restaurant that takes pride and passion in their work. I can taste the kitchen’s passion in the food and feel the pride in their, especially when tattoo was serving us.

oysters 8/10 One out of the three was a bit small. But taste is amazing. oysters were very fresh and the sweet sauce that went w it was delicious too. Had to stop myself from eating all 3 at once. They add water at the start to give a misty effect, but one thing is that after the ice melts and oysters submerge into the water, the sauce kind of gets diluted.

Kimchi burrata 9/10 Would reccomend getting this because its such a unique fusion take that works so good. Burrata is also a generous portion!! First thing i ate so i left some and went back to it at the end of the meal in cased i was just hungry and it was still impressive! Burrata is so milky and creamy. Portion is so generous and can probably be shared amongst 3-4 people as a starter.

Salmon nori take 10/10 Everything i ever wanted in a nori taco — this is how it should be. Rly enjoyed the addition of seaweed salad. Comes w a side of sweet soy sauce.

Korean chicken nori taco 8/10 Also great but i preferred the salmon one. Flavour was more one dimensional but still enjoyed every bite!

Crispy pork viet salad 9/10 Salad was kinda basic but did have Vietnamese flare + classic sweet fish sauce. The cripsy pork belly was amazing tho — extremely crispy! Also, very impressive portion size for a small plate good for 3-4 pax!

wagyu beef dumpling 8/10 only 3 dumplings but generous amount of beef. Nicely pan seared and the filling was delicious.

Also got a cocktail which was pretty good but nothing particularly special. Service is exceptional. Music is a bit too loud given the dark and...

I’m not the kind of person that likes taking the time to give reviews, but this place went above and beyond in terms of food and service, so I feel it deserves a good public review.

The top notch service started when I tried to make a reservation. Dedik was kind enough to take my booking and accomodate some changes (adding more people into the booking, changing the time), and when I got there, he and the entire staff were so friendly and kind, and were willing to accomodate my request to move to a different table, so much so that they reassured me every 5 minutes that the table that I wanted was going to clear up soon. Fast forward to the dining experience, Michael was looking after us, giving good recommendations, making sure the food was great, even taking the initiative to take pictures of me and my friends. A great service from the start right to the very end.

The food was also amazing. My friends and I ordered some small plates and main dishes to share, and all of them were excellent. The taste profiles were not designed to have the spiciness level of “lidah orang Indonesia”, but still! My Indonesian friends and I were wowed by every single dish we had; we enjoyed all of them and had no complaints whatsoever. The dumplings, the massaman curry and the steak stood out, so I would recommend ordering those.

Pretty sure I will recommend this place to everyone I know, and I myself will be back to try their other dishes. 10/10...
