As a professional photographer and aspiring writer I have always searched for that place that becomes a defining time in the journey of my creative lifestyle. I searched for it in LA, New York, and even as far as Tangier, Morocco. Each destination has become a part of my journey and story as an artist, but I was chasing a different time in each of those places. Tangier was where American authors such as Paul Bowles and William Burroughs spent their days writing and socializing in cafes with diplomats and spies back in the 40ās and 50ās. When I went there in search of finding inspiration I most certainly did, but I was chasing a time that had already passed and was not my time or place and that community now has its place in history. Then I unexpectedly came to Bali and found BGS. At first I was unaware of what I was stumbling upon, but sitting here five months later I realize I have found a place that is part of my journey and story as an artist and not that of another time. Itās a place that is leaving a profound impact on me personally and professionally. BGS is more than just a surf shop and coffee bar, it is a community, and the kind I have always searched for. Surfers, artists, designers, writers, photographers, and more. All bringing their unique lifestyle, personalities, and perspectives to an incredible community of people. The staff and community it has created has become my family here in Bali and BGS is a defining place in my life as an artist. Others have had their time and place in history, but for me it is right here, right now at BGS that will be a defining time in mine. Anyone who enters is welcomed with open arms and each brings something new to this amazing community of humans. And it all starts when you enter and realize youāve found the best cup of coffee in Bali and canāt stop coming...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe coffee shop is actually simple. Open minimalist concept with an exterior that is no less relaxed. This coffee shop doubles as a shop that sells surfing equipment and knick-knacks. So when you enter, on the left you will be greeted by the coffee bar, on the right is the shop area, which is neatly lined up, ranging from glasses, t-shirts, to various surfing accessories. Since I haven't had coffee that afternoon, I decided to order a hot americano in a take away cup. That means if you don't run out, you can take it on a trip. The packaging is adorable. It is equipped with a portable handle that is easy to carry. My friend ordered cold americano in a take away cup as well. What's funny is that it's packaged in a paper cup too. Usually cold drinks must use disposable plastic cups. Here still use paper cups. We both wondered how well this paper cup would hold cold coffee. In my opinion, BGS Bali coffee is pretty good. It feels more common and easily accepted by all circles. No wonder it's always crowded, huh! As long as I sit here, I don't really feel it. Remarkably visitors come and go...
