Warung Mak Beng Ubud — Restaurant in Bali

Warung Mak Beng is one of the typical eateries in Bali as far as I've visited, there are 2 places / 2 branches,

Sanur area : Jalan Hang Tuah No 45, Sanur, Denpasar, Bali. Right in front of the temple, and very close to one of the Sanur Harbor entrances.

ubud area : Jl. Cok Rai Pudak, MAS, Ubud District, Gianyar Regency, Bali 80571

The food menu at this stall is only 2: Fish head soup and Fried Fish

You only need to mention how many portions are requested, without having to choose from the menu list. A set menu consists of rice, fish soup with yellow sauce, and fried fish and its signature chili sauce. For those who like spicy food, you can get addicted when you sip the hot sauce.

The fish used is cakal fish, or other names for pompano. This fish has dense and tasty meat, similar to tuna or tuna. It didn't smell fishy at all when the fish was eaten, maybe because the spices in the sauce and the fish were strong.

At a glance, you can feel the fresh galangal, turmeric, and chili spices on your tongue. Its flagship sambal is similar to sambal plow with a slight aroma of shrimp paste. The spicy taste is guaranteed to make you sweat, especially when you are splashed with lime juice.

one of the worst places to dine in. first, the waiting list is always full and to wait for tables you need to be very patient, probably about 5-15 minutes. then, the waitresses are busy so calling them is hard. second, the wait for the food is unbearable and tiring. it takes about an hour to arrive to your table. it's hot inside and noisy because of how many people have not been served what they ordered. on top of that, the food is just fried fish with some soup and little rice. you need to add extra rice on your tab and it's pretty pricey. overall, not worth the wait and time just for half a portion of rice...

Delicious Balinese fish ! 200% recommended ! Arrived at 18h00, we have been served immediately. Both fried fish and head fish soup were amazingly tasty and meaty. The fried one was crispy but tender inside, genuinely spiced with the best flavorful Sambal sauce we have tried yet. The soup has perfect aromas and is not too spiced. Fish meat inside is delicious as well. Very good portions. Lots of local people, no touristic, Pleasant staff, great balinese style décor and ambiance, Best value for the price : probably one of the best restaurant we have eaten in since 1 month in Ubud....
