After getting a Balinese massage, I hopped in a car and headed to Woobar.
When I originally planned this trip last year of course I was interested in the food, but one of the things I discovered was that Anthony Bourdain came and did an episode of No Reservations and Parts Unknown here. There are three places he journeyed to in his travels. I was going to be nearest to one, so I made a reservation to go after dark.
After driving through thirty minutes of traffic the road changed into a narrow corridor. The trees were dimly lit and the foliage was immaculate. A security guard stopped the car to search the trunk, and took down the license plate. We continued onto the road until it opened into a huge circular lobby.
After I got out I slowly walked through what seemed to be a large hotel - the largest I've even seen in my life. (I looked it up when I got back - Staying here is $500-$600 per night but I get why!) The inside of the hotel was beautiful but going outside was just breathtaking - a maze of decks, some candlelit, some right off the hotel, some surrounded by water....think Arabian nights meets the Hamptons. Super posh. I went to the counter to check in.
I sat in one of the suda seating areas: It's in prime real estate view of the early entertainment and the evening DJ, on a deck that highlighted the rolling waves in the water with lights. The setup was incredible, and you got up for nothing and I mean nothing - there were at least five people standing there, waiting to serve you. And the menu....the food was incredible and the cocktails didn't taste like they had any alcohol in them whatsoever (They totally did though, so pace yourself!) There was live guitar music, then the DJ brought some nice chill vibes. They cool part - they give you so much food for what you pay! I was stuffed and ended up bringing most of a dish back.
Really blessed to have tried this place on my first trip to Bali....

Read moreMy boyfriend and I came here to escape the rain and enjoy some food and drinks. We had the most helpful and awesome server named Yuma! He was so attentive and even taught us a lot of Balinese/Indonesian words to practice around town hehe like “Enak sekali” meaning very delicious!
For drinks I ordered a Mango Lust which was smooth and tasty and my BF ordered a Guinness Smooth - his new favorite beer haha I also ordered red tea with a side of honey, the tea set was so cute!
For food, we originally ordered the Vegan Nachos bc I love jackfruit. We did not like this at all - the jackfruit was cold (normally protein on nachos comes warm so it caught us off guard), the chips were hard and not good, and overall I felt the flavors did not go together. After a few bites, we kindly let them know that we did not like it and sent it back.
Our server Yuma came to our rescue! He removed it from our table and off our tab and then asked if we wanted to order anything else. We ordered the Cinnamon Maple Chicken and he warned us that it might be sweet so he offered to put the syrup on the side so we can keep the chicken savory and dip it in the syrup if we wanted to.
THIS WAS BOMB!! Totally the move. My bf even said it’s one of his top 3 fave things he’s eaten since we’ve been in Bali! The chicken was perfectly crisp and tender and topped with a spicy mayo. I love sweet and salty so I dipped it in the syrup and I was in heaven!!
Thank you Yuma for making our dining experience really...
