I have been dining here since my childhood. I have seen Taipan grow in service quality, in the quality of the dishes served, as well as how they innovate the food. The restaurant itself is spacious, enabling reasonable distances between tables even during pandemic.

FOOD Hands down, they serve the best Abalone and Shark's Fin soups in the whole North Sumatra. As for Halal Dimsum, I have gone across Europe and Asia to confirm that no other restaurants up to date can ever compete with them. The selection in the menu is very extensive. One of my favourite appetiser would be the Silky Fried Tofu. Smooth and buttery in the inside, crunchy on the outside. I find it mind boggling and nothing short of a miracle! They serve very fresh seafood, can be cooked in any style you want. Pretty neat eh? Wait till you get to their desserts. Prepare for this: THIS is the restaurant that made the FIRST AND MOST POPULAR DURIAN PANCAKE in Medan. Ps: their puddings and the Durian Princess is Amazing too!

DRINKS Undiluted Fresh fruit Juices For The Win! They've got a selection of tropical fruits up for juicing as well as a variety of Chinese teas to try. However, Taipan needs to pay more attention to the way they brew their teas. Still a bit improper for a high-end Chinese restaurant. An small piece of advice I would give would be, "Learn from the Cantonese."

AMBIANCE Restaurant is Very Clean and comfortable to sit in. The tables and chairs are a bit weathered but was very well maintained. I love the decoration and the ambiance of the dining hall along with the privacy given to us in the VIP rooms. The only point of improvement possible is to actually fix the thermostats in every VIP room as it could get slightly cold for older guests in the evening.

SERVICE Service is the best thing about Taipan. It's all about connecting to the customers and catering to our every needs. Taipan did a wonderful job in forging polite, friendly, and responsible members. Surely along the years there were times where we've had complains about our food, but every single one was meticulously handled by the staff members elegantly, including the Chefs themselves.

I'm here to attend my cousin's wedding party. I was told that Taipan serves high end or middle upper class of customers. There's probably a grain of truth in such. The restaurant decor looks a bit upscale. It's probably a good place for you to host your VIP guests for any event. I know that some banks host their customers and VIPs in Taipan for certain events. So yes Taipan brand makes everyone connect to upscale restaurant in their mind that everyone would be expecting paying premium price for meals here and a good customer service standard. Haven't visited for a while. Food used to be great.

But damn the WA admin is so haughty. Asked for reservation and minimum charge for private room and whether we can book via WA.

Any sensible person would've asked about the detail of our plan (date, time, number of customers).

But not this person. Literally no care was given.

The answer is just... "Minimum 2,5 million." Done.

I expect the old timers of my parents generation will still frequent this place but once they're gone.

With such horrid online presence the business will probably struggle to secure younger customers.
