Compared to all the cheating, dishonest menus, "added tax and service" nonsense around in Bali, this is the safest harbor one could imagine. I am thankful that this place exists.
All prices are final. You pay what you see. The menu is genuine, all ingredients are listed. Zero surprises. You can buy off the shelf or wait for your order. Eat in AC space or in the shade of tropical trees outside. Add delicious extras to their specific "burger" menu or enjoy plain bread with tea/coffee/juices/smoothies/cocktails.
It is THE place where Ciabatta is THE Ciabatta made of plain sour dough without any added nonsense as in "Italian" restaurants everywhere on this otherwise gorgeous island.
It is THE place where you are not being ripped off with additional "services and taxes" (food, restaurant / hotel / catering services and beverages are exempt of VAT in Indonesia, so ALL of the other local businesses are, in plain English, ripping us/foreigners off by charging "tax" on top of their menus, and on top of "service"). This is an "ignorance is bliss" "tax" specifically created by local "smart" "business people" to increase their "earnings", or, in other words, scam us, the tourists. It is all that simple.
Here? All transparent. If and when I want to pay for service, tips box/cup is provided.
Space? Respected. No bugging, no disturbing, no cross sales, no nothing. Just come and do your thing, distraction free.
WIFI? Free, 10 MBPS. No devices limits bs.
Chargers? Outlets available near many tables I have seen. You have your own charger, use it, zero harassing would follow.
Quality? Top notch. Absolutely fantastic kitchen, coffee, tea, juices, everything.
Service? Just be patient to wait in line, and will be served quickly and professionally by friendly, attentive personnel.
Attention? Personnel understands the difference between "Vegan" and "Vegetarian", which seems to be impossible everywhere else. Thank you very much.
Hours? 07-17 DAILY. E.g. every single day. Were open even on the election day, when everything else was closed - I got my 3x fresh and crispy ciabattas here.
Prices? Ciabatta for IDR 13000 a piece. Final. Price. No "tax" bs. In pretentious "Bali Buda" what they call "Ciabatta" with pieces of paper in it starts at IDR 30 000 (before "tax"). In "Massimo" which is expected to be "Italian" restaurant what they call "Ciabatta" goes with butter and sweet dough (huh?) for IDR 12000 (before 16% "services and tax" bs).
Pretentious? No. Free from all this Fancy-Nancy / Shakti-Shanti bs. Everything is plain and simple here. A constructive approach. Cannot appreciate this enough.
Bottomline? A must visit. Daily.
Thank you very much, please keep it up, do not change anything.
100/100 AAA+++++ recommended place to come, stay, enjoy.
A FANTASTIC FIND.
Did I say thank you? Thank you, I do really appreciate that you exist here.
I spend 35+ minutes one-way walking daily in a heat of the day from another part of Sanur just to enjoy what you have to offer. Would that be enough sign of appreciation? Thanks much.
Places like yours give faith that it is not all too bad with this island these days.
DOWNSIDE?
Could be sold out after noon on some days.
COMPLAINTS?
Zero/Nada.
They actually listened and now all orders specifics such as "no cheese", "no sauce" go into their system and printed in the kitchen (!!!) so "no cheese" means no cheese. That is exactly how it should be done.
REFERENCE
For those interested in references regarding the taxation bs that we are facing here in Bali:
PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) "Indonesian Pocket Tax Book 2016" (chapter value added tax, page 47) lists non-taxable goods:
c) food and drink served in hotels, restaurants and the like, either consumed in the vicinity or taken away, including food and drink delivered by caterers; and as non-taxable services: l) hotel services;
So whether to allow yourself to be ripped off with "tax & service" nonsense or not is a personal choice. I choose not to and go to a very, very few places like "Bread Basket".
Thank you for...
Read moreWe had the place recommended, but I must admit it was disappointing. We ordered eggs benedict, a croissant with cheese and ham, a plain butter croissant, a carrot juice and a hot latte. The latte was so hot I couldn't touch it for 5 minutes after it arrived. When I tasted it, it confirmed my suspicion. The milk had been boiled, which leaves the cup ruined. The taste of milk porridge overpowered the coffee as expected and we left it. The eggs benedict looked nice when it arrived and I actually liked the bread. The Hollandaise sauce had a weird metallic aftertaste and too much vinegar for my pallet. I could be wrong, but I was thinking the sauce was maybe not made in the kitchen? Even so, the eggs was the best part of the show. My partner had the croissant with cheese and I had a plain one with the coffee. The cheese was rubbery and wet, could be mozzarella, but we were not sure. The ham was without any flavour. The croissant is found better in Sanur and did not have that crunchy flakiness and genuine butter taste that you expect from a good croc. I would rate it as a medium try. The carrot juice was very weak tasting, but worse still, the bottom part exposed a lot of coarse and dry carrot fiber that should never have been in the glass. It was almost as if someone pressed the juice and decided to add the dry waste to the drink in the end. The staff were very friendly, no complaints here. All in all we paid 223.000 IDR, which we don't mind to pay for a set like that, but today it was simply...
Read moreOriginally discovered Bread Basket in Uluwatu last time we were in Bali and I was impressed then. I was happily surprised when I found they had another shop in Sanur! This is quite a large Cafe with lots of seating inside and out. Inside is fully air conditioned, which was needed this time of year.
Really Great baked goods!
The DIY sandwich menu is great value, with fresh bread and packed with fresh ingredients. Went here twice this trip. First order was Chicken, Avocado on Ciabatta, Second was Bacon, Scrabbled eggs on Focaccia, both with an Ice Cappuccino on the side ( 82k - 87K). My wife ordered the Sofy Crunch bowl (45k) each time, which was packed with fruit, muesli and topped with fresh yogurt, she gave it 5*. We finished our last meal with a cinnamon roll (13k), which was warmed up in the oven Mmmmmm delicious!
The coffee is also great and good value at 35k for pretty much any type from standard Cappuccino to Frappé.
The staff are always very friendly, attentive and the food is served quick.
Great Sydney quality food and coffee for a...
