The Tuna Tartare was the standout dish of the evening. The fresh ingredients and the accompanying sauce created a delightful combination that left us impressed. However, the seaweed cracker didn’t quite work; nori might be a better alternative. Despite that, this was easily the best dish we had and a very promising start to the meal.

Unfortunately, the Lamb Shank was a major letdown. It tasted like a frozen TV dinner, with the lamb being soft but lacking in flavor. The gravy had an odd, tangy taste, almost like it had been microwaved, and didn’t complement the dish at all. The mashed potatoes were creamy, but the spices didn’t pair well with the lamb. While the carrots were decent, we wouldn’t recommend this dish—perhaps we just don’t enjoy lamb, but this was disappointing overall.

The Braised Beef Ribs were similarly disappointing. The meat was very chewy and bland, with a flavor reminiscent of rendang that didn’t mesh well with the dish. The sauce, while unique, didn’t add much to the overall experience. Unfortunately, it felt far from the tender, flavorful braised beef we were expecting.

By the time we got to the BBQ Smoked Octopus, we had already lost some of our appetite. The dish started off promising but became a little boring to eat. Pairing the chewy octopus with mashed potatoes didn’t work at all—perhaps sourdough toast would have been a better choice. The tomato puree was too sweet, and a focus on more citrusy acidity could have balanced the dish better. The texture was off-putting, and we couldn’t finish it.

The drinks were okay but nothing special. The taro latte tasted like something you could find at a supermarket, and while the coconut milkshake was creamy, it became overwhelming after a while.

The service was good—we were welcomed and seated promptly. Nothing much to say about it.

We’re unsure about car parking, but we did see a sign pointing to the back, which might have some spaces. Bike parking was well thought out, with a dedicated spot for customers at the front. The restaurant’s aesthetic was quite nice, though it did get a bit hot when the sun was shining on us. They could benefit from adding more air-conditioned rooms, as the fans weren’t enough to...

Kaluma is a new eatery right on Jalan Danau Tamblingan, Sanur. Although this restaurant is new, but the team behind the kitchen is not new: they are also managing Bucu Sanur, Warung Pregina, and the legendary Sand Bar. It is not a surprise that the seafood platter is tasty, fresh, with an unmistakably authentic balinese seasoning. But this is Kaluma! They have duck leg confit with mashed potato and cooked meat and bean which is crispy on the outside, moist on the inside. Their beef rendang is also excellent - authentic yet not too spicy, and their dessert - we tried pana cotta, it was great and executed with style. The place is airy, easy going, with live music - a perfect combo for a beautiful Sanur evening. Recommended!

Update after my recent visit. They feature "mangut", a javanese coconut milk soup with a smoky aroma and steamed fish. Taste is quite authentic and look for a special star: grilled starfruit that gives a unique zest! Try also their "ayam kalasan" and check out their...

Had dinner at Kaluma for the first time with my husband, and we had a great experience!

The place is spacious, comfortable, and has bookable spots for a more private dining experience.

The highlight? BBQ live cooking by the chef team, which makes the dining experience even more exciting!

For the food, we tried the Chicken Parma, and it was amazing! Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, with a delicious melted cheese topping.

The Spaghetti was also great perfectly cooked pasta with rich flavors. The Grilled Tenderloin was tender, juicy, and cooked just right.

To end the meal, we had the Chocolate Mousse, and it was the perfect dessert , smooth, rich, and absolutely delicious!

Overall, Kaluma is a great place for a cozy dinner with delicious food and an interactive live cooking experience. Definitely a must try!
