Went to celebrate my wife's birthday. Arrived a little late for our reservation, but not to worry, only a couple of tables occupied. We opted for a table inside, and we had the section of the restaurant all to ourselves. The place is not overly decorated, but not spartan either. The room was well airconditioned, and despite the grilling inside the room, the vents did well in pulling out the smoke.
Service was mostly attentive, although being in that section, sometimes had to relay our need for a waiter/tress through the cooks in the middle open cooking area. We ordered calamari friti, to start. The calamari itself was just right in texture, but we found the batter a little too hard. We prefer a light but crispy coating. But the wife loved the aioli sauce it accompanied.
We shared an order of Wagyu rabo de toro and requested a 300 gm cut of the 30 day dry aged Bife Ancho (normally a 250 gm cut). The cut came out at 350 gm (chef sent a photo of the cut on a scale) and was cooked to our desired temperature: rare to medium rare. Served with small portions of patatas bravas and fries. That's okay, we're cutting back on carbs anyway. I would have preferred the aioli sauce on the side rather on the patatas bravas, but as the Rolling Stones said, "You can't always get what you want"
All this washed down with a bottle of Stone Crest Merlot Pinotage from South Africa, which was an excellent pairing. I must add that they do have a good selection of wines and spirits, at varying price points that are quite fair for Bali.
The rabo de toro ala Cordoba was excellent, fall off the bone tender and the garlicky wine sauce was a delicious counter point to the 4 savory oxtail pieces. Two small complimentary bread rolls provided were perfect to mop up the sauce.
The Tasmanian entrecote/ribeye was cooked to perfection, although a bit more crust would have been appreciated. With an order of steak, you can choose 2 of the 6 sauce options. We selected the chimichurri and crema de champinones. The latter was much too rich for my taste, but the chimichurri's herbal flavor cut through the fatty cut of the beef.
Overall, a pleasant place for a celebratory dinner. There are many more opulent restaurants in Bali, and many less expensive steak joints, but I will always choose meat quality over decor. The prices at Puerta 26 are reasonable and good value. Our bill came to...
Read moreI want to commend all the dedicated staff at this restaurant for their exceptional service.
Tonight, I dined alone as I often do, and as usual, the staff exhibited remarkable politeness, the food surpassed expectations, and the pricing remained commendable given the high quality.
Regrettably, as noted in the review by Кристина Царева who was the cause of my marred dining experience Her and the man in the photo whose demeanor was exceptionally rude and who seemed intent solely on exploiting the establishment. Their behavior included verbal abuse towards the staff and an outright refusal to settle their bill despite continuing to order additional drinks. Throughout this ordeal, the management and staff demonstrated unwavering professionalism, while the disruptive couple persisted in causing a scene. Following a tumultuous exchange, they departed without settling their dues, prompting the staff to swiftly apologize to other patrons for the disturbance.
Within ten minutes, the restaurant regained its bustling atmosphere, and the staff seamlessly resumed their impeccable service. I have also captured video evidence of the couple’s appalling behavior, should authorities require it to ensure that individuals of such demeanor are prevented from returning to this...
Read moreStaying at a nearby hotel and we stumbled upon this place - walk a beautiful tropical pathway to a lovely restaurant. From the moment we entered we were greeted by lovely calm people. A welcome break from the hustle (and the hustlers) of Bali. The restaurant was spotless and even the rest room smelt lovely and clean (which was a welcome change from some of the places we’ve visited) We were served promptly. We were impressed by the variety on offer, steaks, tapas, pasta, wyagyu burgers, chicken, salads, Indonesian dishes and an extensive alcohol selection and deserts. And all at reasonable prices. We ordered grilled mozzarella salad and fries to start which also came with complimentary rolls, which were delicious. We also ordered spaghetti bolognaise and a chicken dish with a creamy mushroom sauce and the most delicious mash potato. Drinks were served with icy cold glasses and ice on the side -not just piled up into your glass as is usually the case. It’s these little details that set this restaurant apart. The music (contemporary jazz music) was also worth mentioning - at a lovely volume and not blasting you out the restaurant. The food was outstanding - fresh and absolutely delicious. All in all a lovely experience and we will...
