One of the legendary Chinese restaurants in Jakarta that still survives with its old school to this day. For those of you who have never been here, you should use GPS because the location is not on the main road. We went here on a Sunday night and it wasn't too crowded. The mainstay menu here is definitely the gourami head soup. It still tastes good. The fish meat does not smell of mud. What's a little different now is the soup, which feels less thick or strong than it used to. This fish head soup is only available in Large portions. So if you only have two people, you might not finish the soup but the leftovers can of course be taken home. The service here is still attentive...

Been going here since I was a kid and still making the effort to come down here everytime I come home for a visit. The food has always been consistent. except for the fish head soup maybe. I feel is not as thick / as creamy as before, been hoping it is just a once off occassion but I think it is safe to say that there might have some changes in the way they make it. BUT still dont stop me from going back, other dishes is still as glorious as before. Oh, and salute to one of the oldest lady staff on the floor! one hell of a loyal staff you have there! she has been there since I can remember! she is always very polite and friendly, just want to hug her when i see her,...

If you crave for traditional chinese food, cant go wrong to dine at Cahaya Baru. They have quite a few favorite dishes like Sop Kepala Ikan, Lindung Cah Fumak, Bakmi goreng, Udang Yamha, babat rebus, Ikan asam manis etc The portion is getting smaller, thats expected. It would be 5* has it not because of slight decline in taste... i swear it used to be better. But it is still delicious... love the fish head sop... The place is modest, but decent and clean. During busy times prior to pandemic, parking is a hassle, but nowadays it is easy to get a spot within the compound. Perfect for a big family get together, so you can order many dishes and enjoy...

A somewhat traditional Chinese cuisine restaurant. Has been around for quiet sometimes. Famous for its Udang Mutiara and Babat dish. Bakmie goreng is a must on every table. Comparison to the last time dining here (5 years difference): Babat was available after 1830 (so couldn't compare). Udang Mutiara still tasted good, but somehow far less crispy. Bakmie goreng was somehow less tasty, the lap ciong was not fried dry enough. Maybe they changed their cook (?) and the handing over was not that proper. That is too bad. Pretty tricky to get here, but the parking space was adequate.

Don't let the appearance and location of this restaurant fool you ... It looks a little aged, and rightly so. this restaurant has been in business that long. Loved the fish soup.... Flavourful and rich. I'd rate it 9/10. It's a must try. The tofu with minced meat is also another must try. Can "taste the wok" (wok hey). I'd give it 9/10. The prawns are fresh, steamed and cam taste the natural sweetness. I'd give it 8/10. The vegetable with grilled eel is also very tasty ... I'd give it 8/10. Overall enjoyed the meal totally and would surely come back again .
