TL;DR: avoid Chef Iwan for omakase service.
I recently visited this restaurant and ordered their omakase. At first, we thoroughly enjoyed both the food and the service. As the food was prepared personally, I wanted to appreciate it by enthusiastically digging into the dishes. The chef introduced himself and his team, which added a personal touch to the experience. However, an issue arose when we requested to sit in the middle of the seating area. We believed it would offer a better view and a more central experience.
Unfortunately, the waitress refused our request, explaining that sitting in the middle would make it difficult for us to see the sushi-making process. This reasoning felt somewhat dismissive, as we were keen to have a comfortable dining experience in the spot we preferred.
About 20 minutes later, new customers arrived and were given the middle seats—the ones we had asked for earlier. These new customers could clearly see the sushi-making process from their seats. It turned out that they were regular customers who also ordered omakase. This felt somewhat unfair, as it seemed like preferential treatment was given to the regulars, even though we were also paying for the same experience.
Chef Iwan, who served us, ignored us and instead focused on the other guests, frequently asking them how their food was and engaging in conversation, while he didn’t care about our table. This disparity in treatment was noticeable and disappointing. Additionally, it was clear from photos that the chef served different condiments to the new customers, despite us having the same order. This inconsistency in service is definitely not acceptable. While the food itself was good, the overall experience was marred by this preferential treatment.
At the end of our meal, Chef Dharma kindly approached us to ask how the food was and about our experience. He empathized with our feelings regarding the poor experience with Chef Iwan and apologized on behalf of the team. His consideration and apology were appreciated, and we are thankful to Chef Dharma for talking to us after we felt neglected by Chef Iwan and the other table guests.
I was really disappointed with the experience and cannot recommend this restaurant for those who want to enjoy omakase to...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Guresu. Nyobain summer omakase, pas lagi ada menu itu memang dan, I was not disappointed! Each course was a testament to the chef's skill and creativity, making for a truly memorable meal.
The highlight for me was the shime saba sashimi. The mackerel was perfectly marinated, balancing rich umami flavors with a delicate acidity. It was incredibly fresh, with a texture that melted in the mouth.
Equally impressive was the mini unagi don. The eel was tender and flavorful, served atop a bed of perfectly cooked rice. The combination of the savory, slightly sweet eel with the subtle flavors of the rice created a harmonious dish that I couldn’t get enough of.
Istriku yang lagi hamil juga minta dimasakin mateng, dan mereka bisa lho! Kudos to all the chefs!
Guresu has certainly earned a spot on my list of favorite restaurants. I can't wait to visit again and experience more of their exceptional offerings. If you’re a fan of omakase or just appreciate high-quality Japanese cuisine, Guresu is a...
Read moreWent there with my friends for omakase set, booked the place 3 weeks before since they have promotion event. For omakase, need to pay full upfront. They served the ala carte, the menu is quite various and the price seems make sense.
Atmosphere : the place is quite small, so make sure you do reserve beforehand. Be on-time, or else they will give away your seat after 15 mins. The place itself was nice, clean and super friendly.
Service : one of the best! Everyone is super friendly and not in the annoying way, they were informative (chef & waiters) for the course and helpful with everything. They can lend phone holder in case you want to record or doing a live. The waiter also got trained about how to take pictures nicely 🙌🏻
Food : the food is good, it’s fresh and the visual is very interesting. However, not in the level of amazing. They will change the omakase menu every quarter and I might come back to try it.
All in all, it’s a good experience. Spending good time with friends along with good food will always...
