Jungen joint is a small burger joint in Pasar Baru area, opened since 3 years ago. There was no parking spot, but we could park accross the street, which is in front of Indomaret. It costed me 10k for the parking fee.
When we arrived, we were an hour too early at 10am, there was no queue yet, so we walked around Pasar Baru just to waste time away. A big mistake! When we went back there, the queue was quite long already.
At 11am, the door was opened at last. The lady in charge let us come into the joint and settled in a bit. Then she explained evertyhing to us, how to write down ourselves what we want to order, the waiting time and how they process the order. They make the burgers using phase system. Phase 1, they make 9 burgers, which usually take about 30 minutes. And after they've done it, they continue to the 2nd phase, another 9 burgers, which means another 30 minutes to process them and so on. They kept on going until they run out all the ingredients, usually by around 3pm, depends on the orders quantity.
The menu was very simple and straightforward, which made it easy for us to choose. The lady suggested us, as first timer, to order the jungen signature & the franck. Which we ordered exactly that. For the franck, i chose 3/4 cooked egg over the well done egg. BYO drinks are welcomed, only mineral water is available in store. Although it's open style restaurant (door widely opened), no pets allowed.
We got into the 2nd phase, and we waited for our order for about 45minutes. Not as bad as i thought it would be. The duo mom & son worked really efficiently and fast.
I had high expectations because of how it's packed with people & the smell of the burger patties were super good. And it turned out to be really good.
The burger bun looked thick and dense, but it was soft and fully. The patty was grilled, covered with dome shaped lid (steamed) and later on pressed hard to get the charred texture & aroma. They use caramelised onion which to me felt like grilled onion chutney and pickle (not to overpowering). Their special orange sauce was generously spread on the buns and over the patty. I could sense the use of cumin in their patty.
The franck had a bit of extra crunch from the onion rings inside the burger, which added an appetizing texture to it. Both of the burgers were delicious and flavorful. Even my son said, it was worth the wait.
The things i think need improvements were: there was no toilet. Although they provide gloves & hand sanitiser on the tables, still, a restaurant needs its own toilet for customers to use. the joint was really hot & humid. Although there were 4 fans inside, still it wasn't a comfortable place to wait for...
Read moreI had high hopes for this burger joint, especially given its popularity on social media. My experience, however, was a bit of a mixed bag.
What Worked Well
The staff were a real highlight. They were genuinely pleasant and incredibly helpful, even sharing interesting backstories about the burgers and guiding us through the menu with great recommendations. Their support with our takeaway order was also seamless.
Where Things Went Wrong
The main drawback was a crucial one: our takeaway order wasn't repeated back to us, leading to a mistake. We ended up with the pricier "signature plus" burger instead of the "signature" one we'd requested. To keep things simple, we just paid and left, but it was a notable slip-up.
The Burger Itself: "The Franck" (Dine-in)
We ordered "The Franck" for dine-in, and here's our take on the burger itself:
Portion vs. Price: At IDR 72,000, we felt the portion could be more substantial.
The Patty: Unfortunately, the patty was quite dry and lacked juiciness. Its flavor could also use significant improvement, perhaps by incorporating herbs or more seasoning.
The Bun: The bread was also a bit dry, which didn't quite match the burger's price point.
Conclusion
Based on my experience, the exceptional service is the only thing I can truly praise. The burger itself, in my opinion, wasn't worth the price and has considerable room for improvement. I can find a much better burger for the same price at my favorite spot near Sabang. Honestly, this experience just reinforces my skepticism about influencer recommendations; I often find...
Read moreI visited Jungen Joint in the Pasar Baru area yesterday after hearing good things, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I ordered a burger for takeaway since the dine-in space is quite small only fits about 5 to 10 people and it was a bit hot inside with just air fans for cooling.
Despite that, the atmosphere felt friendly and homey. The owner, who is also the cook, was incredibly humble and welcoming. You can tell a lot of heart goes into what they serve.
The burger itself was delicious—the bun was soft, the beef patty juicy and flavorful, and everything tasted freshly made. It’s clear they focus on quality, and even though I didn’t eat on the spot, it was still warm and tasty by the time I got home.
There are only 3 kind of burger. For the first timer, better order Jungen Signature. We have to write on the notes what we want to order, dine in or take away and payment methods, after that she will cook our orders. Even the price is quite expensive but it's worth for the burger size and taste.
This place feels like a hidden gem. Just make sure to come early since they make a limited number of burgers daily and often sell out. If you’re in the area and craving a handmade burger with a personal touch, Jungen Joint is definitely...
