Had the pleasure of dining at Rosso, the esteemed Italian restaurant located in the Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta. Having been a prominent fixture in the city’s dining scene for quite some years, Rosso is well-known for its delightful ambiance and high-quality cuisine.
Upon entering, the elegant and inviting atmosphere of Rosso immediately set a positive tone for our meal. The decor is tastefully done, reflecting a blend of modern and classic Italian aesthetics, creating a perfect setting for a relaxing and sophisticated lunch.
We started our meal with a creamy risotto, garnished with walnuts. The risotto was cooked to perfection, creamy and rich with a delightful crunch from the walnuts, adding a wonderful texture contrast.
Next, we indulged in a beautifully presented dessert featuring a crunchy base, topped with dollops of flavorful cream, fresh strawberries, and chocolate decorations. The dessert was not only visually appealing but also a delicious mix of textures and flavors that left a lasting impression.
One of the standout dishes was the perfectly cooked fish, served with a vibrant sauce and a beetroot chip. The fish was tender and flavorful, while the sauce added a delightful tanginess that complemented the dish beautifully. The beetroot chip provided a nice crunchy element, making the dish a harmonious blend of flavors and textures.
Additionally, we enjoyed a pasta dish that was both simple and exquisite. The pasta was cooked al dente and topped with a fresh, herbaceous pesto sauce that elevated the dish’s overall flavor profile. It was a perfect example of how simplicity can result in a satisfying and...
Read moreTried the sunday brunch buffet - priced at IDR 799k++/pax. The theme was italian/mediterranean and it was surprisingly good.
Salad - wide spread of mediterranean style of salad. They had prawn, couscous salad and a few with lentils. All olive/balsamic dressed. It's good but it's quite standard. Appetizer - they had salad, foccacia bread, and a spread of cheese n salami. Loved the foccacia bread, and salami was as authentic as the one i ever tried in milan. Primo - they served grilled salmon, beef wellington, wagyu tomahawk, and lamb shank. The lamb was exceptionally good. Not a fan of lamb usually but this one has no lamby smell/taste and spiced perfectly. The other roast meats were not bad either. Pasta - very special shout out to the delicious risotto and pasta. The chef will bring his mini station personally to serve the 2x dishes and boy, they were go-od. My parents even liked them too (my mom esp is not a big fan of pasta). They also made fresh pizza although taste- wise, nothing special that i could remember specifically Dolce - Tiramisu was good! No wonder its quite difficult to get one although i checked the station 2x. My most fav was definitely the log cake with the rich dark choco mousse in the center. Cake was moist enough and rich! Yumz Drinks - tbh their refreshing drinks: fruit punch, lychee tea were made properly. BUT! The coffee was terrible. I expected more from an italian restaurant.
Overall, would give this restaurant another go when it's dinner time where they will serve ala-carte instead of buffet....
Read moreBack after more than 3 years (19 March 2023). The menu is different from pre-covid. I was informed the chef had changed and this menu reflect the part of Italy he's from, Sicily. Ordered the seafood minestrone and the lamb shank. They were very tasty, but I would say the lamb shank is outstanding, the meat is so soft and tender, falls off the bone. Very attentive staff and the service was excellent. Glad to be back!
Came back for dinner today (4 June 2023). The manager Alyssa surprised me when she remembered I had enjoyed and raved about the lamb shank the last time! She didn't serve me the previous time, but had stopped by asking how the food was. This is indeed excellent service, for remembering and making hotel guests feel special. I ordered the roast pork belly with apple sauce and the birramisu, which is a tiramisu with dark ale beer. Both were very good (pork is fat, so know what you are ordering!). They asked if I would like to finish with coffee and when I said I wouldn't have to pay for coffee if I go to the Horizon lounge, the staff (Jessica) immediately offered me a complimentary coffee. This is indeed a nice restaurant with great food, excellent and friendly service and nice ambience! Highly recommended if you are in Jakarta or if staying at...
