DWNTWN Plaju — Restaurant in Jakarta

I visited DWNTWN Plaju for the first time last Friday, January 24, 2025, and my initial impression was quite positive. The interior decoration and design perfectly align with the theme, creating a great ambiance. The bar, in particular, is stunning.

While the menu looked promising, we weren’t very hungry, so we only tried the Quattro Formaggi Pizza. It was delicious, with a generous amount of cheese.

As someone who frequently visiting bars almost every weekend, I must admit I was a bit underwhelmed by the cocktails. The Hanky Panky and Lychee Martini didn’t meet expectations. Both are staple cocktails at most bars, but unfortunately, they were not executed well here. I believe there’s room for improvement when it comes to the beverage offerings.

In terms of customer service, there was a disappointing experience with one of the waiters, possibly named Fikri (not sure if that’s accurate, but he had a slightly chubby build compared to the slimmer staff). We asked if we could move to a nearby table for 4, as it was just four of us waiting for two more friends. His response was, “Sorry, the table is reserved.”

However, moments later, a group from the outdoor area moved to that same table, clearly showing it wasn’t reserved. This made me feel that the waiter either didn’t fully understand our request or didn’t want to check with the RSVP admin, opting for an easy response instead.

My suggestion: please reconfirm table availability with the admin rather than giving quick, dismissive answers. Effort and attentiveness from staff are what make customers feel valued and encourage them to return. While bars may offer similar drinks and food, it’s the service that truly stands out.

Despite this hiccup, I see a lot of potential in DWNTWN Plaju. If I visit again, I’d like to try their Nusantara dishes and perhaps stick to non-alcoholic beverages. Hopefully, this feedback can serve as a constructive evaluation to enhance the overall...

The place and the food are okay, and the live music is great. However, as many people have mentioned, the service is absolutely TERRIBLE. Believe me, even a fast-food restaurant can serve you better than this place.

Receptionist: The reception staff is disorganized with seating arrangements. Despite having a reservation, we were made to wait unnecessarily.

Waitstaff: Not a single waitress was friendly. It felt like they hated their job and the customers. None of them smiled, their responses were arrogant, and they made us feel completely unwelcome—like, AT ALL. My friends and I spent the entire night feeling annoyed by the HORRIBLE service.

Food: While the food was okay, it took far too long to prepare. One of my friends even found a literal CLAM SHELL in their dish. When we tried to complain, not one staff member bothered to apologize. We weren’t even asking for the food to be replaced—just a simple apology would have sufficed. Instead, they silently took the plate and walked away. No words, no acknowledgment, nothing—from the chef or the waitress.

CONCLUSION The service here is RIDICULOUSLY BAD. I have never experienced such poor treatment at any restaurant in my life. Bad experience. Last night they host a Birthday party for a man but they still open for other customers, so we got ourself in. We must squeeze ourselves between random people to get through our seat which is the outer part, the smoking room area. No question asked, they just led us to a devil den. The service was so terrible that I can say this the worst restaurant I've ever been. They served us with bored eyes and urge us to order faster. When the food is served, they didn't get our cutlery. We tried to call for them but they're occupied by the party inside. Several employees made eye contact with me or my friend (who's calling them frantically because they wont go to our table) but they didn't budge. We can saw they crowd a space inside, talking among themselves, so my friend have to get them and call them out of their bad service. AND THEY DIDN'T APOLOGIZE. What a good service indeed :)

They served us with angry face and when we try to order a second order of pizza, they didn't ask permission to clear our table from pizza tray and just whoosh, gone. The worst part when I tried to go, they didn't make a space for other customer and have to squeeze ourselves. This is a bad place.
