I've been scouting for izakaya in Jakarta, and was always ended up unsatisfied until I went to Sumi to kome. The Chef put extra effort and attention to every detail in preparing the foods. The interior of the restaurant is very classy and cozy. Good lighting and layout, open kitchen on the left and bar on the right. And when I said open kitchen, I really meant, you can see every preparation n cooking, not like those restaurants with rectangular opening to a kitchen. So if you're a foodie you will definitely appreciate and enjoy watching the kitchen dynamics here.
All the other 'famous' Japanese joints you see around are mostly serving a Japanese food interpretation with Indonesian/ western style. This restaurant has the most authentic yet modern way of cooking. The menu is very well put, with an extensive but not overwhelming selection of meat and seafood dishes. The price is very reasonable as well, especially with the quality of food they're serving.
If you're looking to have great foods and conversations with your friends, without commercial spotify music or those live bands blasting out loud in the background, this is the perfect place for it.
Making a booking before coming here is recommended. I'm honestly still in awe, will always...
Read moreI recently checked out "Sumi to Kome" restaurant in the Blok-M area, and I've got to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Although the place looks like a big warehouse or container from the outside, the interior was warm and cozy, with a traditional Japanese feel to it.
We went for the Omakase experience, which is always a treat. The Japanese Chef & staff were knowledgeable and helpful, guiding us through the various dishes and explaining the ingredients and cooking techniques used.
The highlight of the meal was definitely the Hokkaido scallops, fresh uni and sweet ebi and Japanese Wagyu, which was cooked to perfection. The umami flavor added an extra layer of depth and complexity to the dish, and I was blown away by how delicious it was. The toppings were fresh and flavorful, and I especially loved the juicy slices of grilled yakitori.
In addition to the rice, we tried some of the restaurant's fish dishes and pickled vegetables, which were both top-notch.
I would definitely recommend "Sumi to Kome" to anyone looking for a delicious, authentic Japanese dining experience.
The food was amazing, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff was fantastic. I can't wait to go back and try more...
Read moreThe whole experience at Sumi To Kome was top-notch satisfying, from the reservation process until the very end of the meal. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, attentive without ever being intrusive. Special shout-out to Mas Heri at the bar for surprising us with a complimentary birthday drink.
The food is mouthwateringly good: authentic Japanese with that serene, signature taste, yet from the very first bite you can tell every ingredient is premium quality.
The place itself is aesthetically pleasing, modern simplicity at its best, cozy and comfortable without overdoing it.
Another big thank you to the team for perfectly following my request of no birthday singing while still coordinating the birthday cake surprise so smoothly.
Overall, we completely enjoyed the night. Worth every single penny, and without a doubt Sumi To Kome is now on my personal list of recommended...
