We went to foeklam for chinese new year set menu dinner. From the menu, it looks decent enough, but we were fooled.
Its not a set menu, but ala carte being charged overpriced for chinese new year purpose.
We are a group of 5. We have prebooked the set. We just arrived for 5 minutes, suddenly all the dishes came out altogether. We are like what? We told the waiters to stop the dishes, but they kept serving the food. It seems like they have prepared the dishes beforehand, and just heat up the food.
Because the food appeared all at once, the fried soft shell crab became soggy. Live prawn got cold easily. Scallop with brocolli became fishy. The only good food was the grouper in hk style and lobster. (Each of us only got half baby lobster).
The waiters were totally clueless about the food and promos that was going on. We tried to complain about the food to the manager, but we did not get a good reply. Instead he just left and we were left clueless on whats going on.
I actually will give a 2 star for the experience. But they had to let us down again with the payment. We have made 500k deposit, but we are still charged full price until we asked.
Overall. The set menu was a rip off. It is better to order ala carte. Definitely would not recommend and will never come back again. There are many better...
Read moreTried Fook Lam in Jakarta and hoped this branch in Bali offered the same as they carried the Njun Njan family name. Unfortunately, to us the foods were dissapointing. The Chinese beef steak was too sour to our taste, very different than that in Grand Indonesia mall in Jakarta that offers perfect balance of sweet, sour and savoury. The fried chicken with mango was just so so despite taking forever to be served. The winner for the night was the brocolli with oyster sauce, which was the simplest dish of all. The chicken and crab soup was just so so.
When we were about to order food to go for our sick child, we asked for porridge and was confirmed it was available twice (despite was off menu) . So we did order, but later we were told that it ran out. What a dissapointment. They did confirm and offer but then later said it was not available. So we were forced to pack another serve of corn soup, but we asked whether the soup was appropriately packaged for takeaway consumption and was confirmed by the waittress. Later in hotel we found out that the soup was placed in a low grade plastic bag, which was clearly noot food grade (especially for hot foods). Again, what a dissapointment.
I guess we'd better stick with Fook...
Read moreVery good Chinese food in Jimbaran with a focus on fresh (live) seafood. There were many local dishes as well, but with a seafood twist. We had Mapo tofu and beef and broccoli, so we didn’t really order their forte I don’t think, but it was nonetheless very good. It is free of pork for those with this dietary restriction. The prices are a deal for the quality I found, quite reasonable. The service is very kind and attentive but not excessive. The atmosphere is pleasant and relaxed. I think it would be a great family spot or a casual date. It’s in a very safe well lit area with security on site. As a westerner I thought it was very kind they provided forks and spoons in case we were not good with chopsticks without us asking. Overall, I would recommend it, especially if you’ve had the great Balinese food here but...
