I’m genuinely torn about writing this review. Our previous visit a couple of weeks ago was quite positive, in fact, I had already drafted a pretty nice review. But tonight’s experience was so disappointing that I have to start over.
We were warmly greeted by Dana, who set a great tone for the evening. We placed our order and waited quite a while for our dishes. Two mains (satay) arrived before the salad and the third main (a pizza). We chalked it up to a busy night, no big deal.
But something felt off. Our satay didn’t look vegetarian, and as strict vegetarians for religious reasons, that immediately concerned us. When we asked, our server confidently assured us it was vegetarian. Trusting his word, my husband and I (who hadn’t eaten meat in over 15 years) began eating the dry chewy bits… but the texture and taste didn’t feel right.
Our unease must have been obvious, because the server returned with a second waiter to reassure us again, this time explaining with big smiles that we were eating tempeh, even describing (a bit condescendingly) what tempeh is. It We’re no strangers to realistic plant-based alternatives like Beyond Burger or The Vegetarian Butcher’s “chicken,” so we know that sometimes appearances and even taste can be deceiving. Still, we weren’t convinced and stopped eating.
When the staff member who originally took our order walked by, we asked again: “Are you 100% sure this is vegetarian?” His answer left us stunned: “No, it’s mixed satay... it’s meat.” He offered to replace it with vegetarian satay, but by then, the damage was done.
We waited again for the replacement dishes, which were fine and actually made with tempeh, although nothing remarkable.
Then came the bill. We were told we wouldn’t be charged twice, but the bill still showed the price for mixed satay. When we pointed out we had eaten vegetarian satay instead, we were told, “It’s the same price anyway.” We paid and left, but something still felt wrong.
On our way out, we checked the menu — the vegetarian satay was listed at 75k, not the 235k we were charged. I went back to the register to request a correction. The bill was voided and reissued, an apology about the mix up was offered, but the whole situation left a really sour taste. Mistakes and mix-ups can happen, this felt like something else.
This was the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. We are dismayed at how this was handled and about the violation of our religious principles because of this, and will certainly not return for a...

We had an amazing experience at Envy Restaurant today as part of our package which included a three-course dinner.
For starters, we tried the samosa (a bit below average in taste) and the chicken wings (excellent!). In the mains, we had a chicken mushroom pizza (really good, huge portion—had to get it packed) and dal rice, which my wife enjoyed. For dessert, my wife had the tropical fruit plate (fresh and delicious), while I tried a jackfruit and ice cream dish. Unfortunately, it had too many small ice cubes which spoiled the texture for me. Overall, I’d rate the food a 7.5/10.
Where Envy truly shines is hospitality—a perfect 10/10. The staff is warm, cheerful, and super helpful. Special thanks to Indri and Windi, who made the experience even more delightful with their courteous service.
Overall, I’d give Envy an 8.5/10 experience. My only regret is not dining here on the earlier night as well—instead of...
Read moreNot a good experience. Not coming here again.
Went to this place, because it said it has vegan options. But the only vegan options they had were sides like fries and potato wedges or a basic salad. And ALL of them were sold out. Even asked the waiter if they can do anything vegan, but no. I don't know where the people in the other reviews got the "plenty vegan options" or "vegan burger", but definitely not here. Prices are more expensive than usually on Bali. So food wise not a good choice. Service was also not a good experience. Because I ordered a big water for the food and for the stay while I was eating. Since I couldn't eat anything | wanted to cancel my water order, since I hadn't open the bottle yet. But the refused. Definitely not...
