I really had high hopes for Aahar as it had been on my list for a while. With so many Indian tourists giving positive reviews and most Indians don’t mince their words and adamantly demand authenticity. I think I was unlucky having came on a bad day? After ordering tje server asked me if I wanted it spicy, I told her normal — think of me as Indian. The spread looked promising and the Pani Puri did not disappoint: sweet, sour, salty, spicy and lots of texture and temperature. The Palak Paneer and Dal Makhani were thick - you can stand up a spoon in it - and that is encouraging considering a lot of places serve both dishes very watery. But as I took a spoonful of the Jeera Rice I immediately noticed the burnt cumin. At first it just tasted like a tandoori char but then I bit into a burnt coriander seed (see photo). After a few bites I could not eat anymore — everything taste burnt bitter and salty. And overall the flavors were quite bland or under-spiced. The first note in every dish is burnt char flavor. I tried to spoon some of the tamarind chutney from the Pani Puri over my food but my palate was completely wiped out. I asked for the bill and told the waitress about the burnt spices and showed her in the food. She just said sorry and that was it. Aahar also does not do bank transfer and cannot pay by QRIS so it took about 10 minutes before I went to dig a card out of my luggage. Frustrating experience to end the meal. With so many new Indian restaurants opening in south Bali, I’ll probably try many more before giving Aahar a second try. Disappointing food...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Aahar Restaurant in Kuta, Bali, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable culinary experiences of my trip.
From the moment we walked in, the warm and welcoming ambiance set the tone for what was to come. The staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They made us feel right at home and were more than happy to offer recommendations based on our preferences.
Now, coming to the food – absolutely outstanding! Each dish was bursting with flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly prepared with great care and attention to detail. The menu is quite diverse, catering to a variety of tastes, but what truly impressed me was their unexpected yet amazing Jain food options. It's rare to find such authentic Jain meals outside India, and Aahar delivered beyond expectations. The food was fresh, vibrant, and full of authentic Indian flavors.
The only minor point was that the service was a bit slow at times. However, the staff’s warmth and the overall experience more than made up for it.
In summary, Aahar Restaurant is a must-visit in Kuta – whether you're craving delicious Indian food, looking for proper Jain meals, or simply want to enjoy great hospitality in a cozy setting. Out of all the Indian restaurants I visited in Bali, this one was by far my favorite.

A Pure Vegetarian Indian Haven in Kuta, Bali – Comforting & Flavorful! 🌱🍛
Finding pure vegetarian food while traveling can be tricky, but this Indian restaurant in Kuta was an absolute blessing! As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to find a place that not only served completely meat-free dishes but did so with authentic Indian flavors and love.
We tried the thali, which was beautifully presented with a variety of curries, dal, rice, roti, and a small dessert – a complete, satisfying meal. The chole bhature was fluffy and delicious, and the aloo gobi was perfectly spiced and comforting.
Everything was fresh, well-cooked, and tasted just like home. They even adjusted spice levels for us, which was a nice touch. The staff were warm and attentive, happy to explain dishes and ensure everything met our dietary needs.
The restaurant was clean and peaceful, with simple yet cozy decor. Prices were very fair, especially for pure vegetarian food in a tourist-heavy...
