Fat Tony's — Restaurant in Kuta

Let me first start off by saying the burgers are in my top 5 all time. Juicy, tender, flavorful and good ratio of bun, vegetable, patty and sauce. It’s the best value for burger and fries on the whole island (I got the triple patty). Most places are more expensive for the level of the same quality but smaller burger and less fries. Not sure why a lot of places in Bali give you just a small portion of fries but at Tony’s it’s the perfect amount.

I live in Las Vegas and eat a lot in LA, so I can attest to the quality of a western burger. I would say it’s the quality of 5 guys burgers with the prices of In-N-Out burgers in the U.S.

The cons I have read in the reviews are the wait time and can be long and the parking isn’t great. I can attest that yes, even at 2pm at opening the tables are almost full and the wait time can already be long. I always get there around 1:45 and I’m usually the first one. Gary the server always lets me sit inside in the AC and I use their free Wi-Fi.

Parking is small and can hold about 8 scooters in the front and maybe a few can park long side of the road. If you have a car, it will be hard to park it, though I’ve seen one or two park parallel on the road/sidewalk.

Overall, this place is worth trying. I’ve been 5 times in one week. Even gone back to back days. I did try to go at night time at 7pm but it was a 90 minute wait. I decided to not wait and just go at opening the next day. When I come back to Bali, definitely stopping by again.

Surely we all have that experience where we ate a particular something somewhere and down the road we keep thinking about it because it was so good. For me this is one of those places. Tasty, well priced, customer friendly, and cooked by fat tony himself. You should drop by if you're around the area, more so if you have some form of transportation. This is one of those burger joints where I feel is more food truck style, somewhat basic yet over-delivering on flavor, and I love every bit of that.

With competition, many burger joints try to 'up their game' by continuously reinventing the classic so as to set themselves apart from others, with prices always following in the same direction. But when you have burgers like theirs, there's really no need to up anything else. I mean.. that grilled beef sandwich was just insanely good, well worth the 15-20 minutes wait. And at 45000IDR, I'd be embarrassed to ask for more. I'm always high on affordability and for a burger joint in Bali, it really is. I can think of many similar places even beyond Bali who charge more for less. You will agree once you've done your homework.

Of course I will be back and eager to try other items on the menu especially that veggie burger(curious). I'll walk, ride, or f#*%ing crawl there if I have to. And I promise to take better pictures. Meanwhile, eat with no regrets.

What a beautiful surprise to find this place when you need a rest from some of the local food. What's more incredible is how extremely affordable this joint is when you are so used to seeing western food being overly priced.

It pays homage to that typical American blues style burger joint but I think the real clincher for me was it wasn't a brioche bun and it was a homemade beef patty, rarely seen these days with burger joints.

The only issue was that for a burger joint it needs to be fast food and that's what people are there for. They were completely overwhelmed by the popularity and high load of people (around 50 when we were there), and unfortunately we're told that there was an hour wait. I personally don't think this is acceptable for a burger joint. I believe this place could be pumping out a lot quicker burgers if they looked at their food prep system.

Also, one addition I would have is music in the dining area inside, as the music was pumping outside and that was atmospheric.

I hate going to restaurants and there is no music. I don't want to hear people eating.

But the burgers were brilliant and the intent of the staff was very attentive apologetic and friendly.

Id definitely go there again. Would be a very impressive (and much more profitable) venue if they could get their burgers out...
