Well, well, well, look who's stealing the show in Malang – Retawu Deli! Let me tell you, folks, this place is like a taste explosion waiting to happen. Their pastries? Oh, they're like little bites of heaven! And the coffee? Strong enough to kickstart a rocket into space – count me in for that caffeine kick! And can we talk about the staff? Friendliness level: off the charts! With smiles so big, you can't help but grin right back.Parking? Oh, they've got it in spades! No need to circle the block like a hungry shark looking for a spot. And picture this: a morning run in the Ijen area followed by a hearty breakfast and steaming cup of joe at Retawu Deli – now, that's what I call a perfect start to the day!Sure, the place has that old-school heritage vibe going on, which adds to its charm, but a little sprucing up wouldn't hurt. Let's make it visually pleasing for the 'gram, shall we? And hey, let's not forget about safety – a few tweaks in accessibility wouldn't hurt to keep everyone on their feet. Now, let's address the elephant in the room – the toilet situation. Okay, folks, brace yourselves because it's not pretty. In fact, it's downright awful. Consider this your official warning: proceed to the restroom at your own risk! But fear not, my fellow coffee enthusiasts, because despite this little hiccup, Retawu Deli still reigns supreme in the realm of tasty treats and caffeinated delights. So, just hold it in, enjoy your coffee and pastries, and maybe plan a pit stop elsewhere. After all, every paradise has its...
Read moreUpdated To the manager: the service has notably changed since my last visit.
I was told that all the meals and even the sandwiches take 40-60 minutes to serve. Also the duck prosciutto, cos they said it was "fresh". Do you slaughter the duck to order or why do even appetizers need 40 minutes?
I ordered sourdough and butter for an appetizer. The staff refused to give me a knife at first because I was only eating bread. When I tried to explain why I need a knife for the butter, they brought me a spoon.
If one has to wait almost an hour for their food, then please at least provide wifi.
The sourdough here and the butter are still my favorite, but you need to remember there's LOTS of good bread in Malang and if this is the quality of the service you can't rely on good food alone to make sure people come back.
Also, I'm all for expats learning the local language, but the location being frequently visited by tourists, it might help to get English-speaking staff and not people who just say "okay okay" when they don't understand you.
