Trip.com Review Villa SoniaThis place is a 100/10!! The resort is a gorgeous, relaxing escape conveniently located near the cultural offerings of Ubud. It has a traditional feel in a tropical oasis with the kindest staff and best breakfast. The perfect couples retreat! ⁃ We are convinced we stayed in the best room in the entire resort #02. It’s listed under the traditional Balinese room with garden view. The private balcony and view that opened up directly from the bed were absolutely stunning. The mornings were filled with beautiful bird songs and one day we even got a visit from the monkeys. At night we could gently hear some soothing live acoustic music from across the street. It created the perfect ambiance for every time of day. ⁃ Note that the bed is a “king” - it’s two twins pushed together as listed- so there is a slight line down the middle where the beds meet, but don’t let that deter you- it’s still very comfortable ⁃ a hidden gem is the bathroom mirror which is still actually a window that opens up to the back mango trees ⁃ The free breakfast is so tasty and fulfilling. It is a buffet style offering many selections of traditional Balinese hot breakfast foods- mostly vegetarian options. As well as fresh juices, fresh fruit, and some yummy sweets. They even offer a station to have whatever egg/omelette you’d like prepared on the spot. ⁃ The entire resort is filled with tropical trees and plants, and there are two refreshing and relaxing pools ⁃ The resort is conveniently located steps away from the Monkey Forest - *there is a back alley route, and sits on a street with plenty of restaurants, local shops offering all the tours, and even a grocery/convenience store. We highly recommend! You will...

I have stayed here before in the past and booked 8 days. Was looking forwards to staying here again but it was not the same. Still beautiful villas and rooms and beautiful gardens and pool but everything else was a complete failure. First they no longer do a shuttle run into Ubud centre. My room was not available for my first night. So put in an alternative one which I was happy with. Just not happy that because I was going to be moved the next day I really couldn't unpack and settle in. They could have asked me if I wanted to stay in that room as it didn't get anyone else in for the next 7 days. In your room you no longer get the supply of tea, coffee and sugar but you get the cups and kettle. I had to plug mine in in the bathroom as there was no socket near the tray on the cupboard. So I also washed my cup in the bathroom and one day left my teaspoon in there next to my toothbrush. When I came home after an outing the receptionist pulled me up about housekeeping said a teaspoon was missing!!! Really awkward and not appropriate. Then one morning I wanted to have a nice early bath in the beautiful bathtub, but the plug would not stay down and keep the water in. So that didn't happen until later in the day. Also the bathroom towels had seen better days. At the start of my stay I ordered dinner from the restaurant. That was a big failure. The cordeon Blue was rough and dry with no self saucing, only a little bowl of tartare sauce which is normal for a fish meal but not chicken and the chips were the frozen type and uneatable. So I didn't eat here for the rest of my stay. The street outside has become very popular since the pandemic with several new really good restaurants, cafes and...

Our stay was very average. We stayed at the suite which had a beautiful and big garden- outdoor shower, kitchen and a beautiful room. However many other things could be improved.

  1. Breakfast : it was good first 2 days but got very boring after that. (We stayed 8days). Same exact thing every single day ( 3 main dish with 2 fruits and egg station) some days they were setting up the breakfast late- some days they were so understaffed, some days there was NO FOOD left at 9am (breakfast ends at 10am).
  2. Management : There was someone who climbed our outdoor shower to install somthing. I was in the toilet and was extremely shocked by noone letting us know that somone will be doing this- what if i was taking a shower!??? (There is no blind from indoor to outdoor) We called the front desk and they has no knowledge of it - bad excuse, you should ALWAYS know who you are bringing in the hotel! NOT SAFE!
  3. Restaurant Food: they served me RAW CHICKEN. People can die from salmonella! Especially in warm weather. I took a bite in my pizza and swallowed a piece to notice that ALL the chicken pieces were NOT COOKED at all. AVOID ordering food there. Also the garlic from the garlic bread was raw as well, and papaya juice was so watered down.
  4. Staff: one person in the front desk was very unfriendly and slow. He was very unresponsive to our question regarding the shuttle, scooter rental etc. However, a girl name Kahres was very pleasant. She was the sweetest most friendly out of all the staff we...

We had a fantastic stay at Villa Sonia Ubud. When we arrived we were greeted with complimentary fruit, drinks, and wine. The room was clean and well kept, we had flowers on our bed and in the bath. It was also my girlfriend’s birthday and they did some decorations on the bed. Breakfast was great and all the staff were very nice. Unfortunately the location is not great, as it is relatively far away from a lot of tourist destinations and takes a while to get anywhere by car. Spa opening times were a bit confusing. Tried to go at 9am which was when it opened but the receptionist said they open at 10, came back at 10 and said they’d open at 10:30, however the prices were cheaper compared to surrounding spas.

We stayed at this hotel for 8 days. Yes that’s a long time to spend in Ubud but it was pretty relaxing. Having said that, there were a couple things that could be improved. The in-room dining wasn’t very good. (Chicken came raw!) the breakfast options are minimal and food is the same everyday. They have scooters for rent at 70rupiah/day, but don’t provide insurance in their rate. Staff was friendly, the rooms were spotless, the pool was clean and never full of people. The location is a 6min drive from town. There are some good restaurants nearby. I would eat there instead of at the hotel.
