The only restaurant in Surabaya, I've found, that offers semi-authentic hummus. All the others (there have been so many) I've tried offer terrible, lumpy chickpea soup, lacking tahini/cumin powder and even containing garlic powder at times, and call it "hummus"... But Lazareta offers a fine hummus that is much closer to authentic middle eastern hummus.
The food arrives very quickly too! 👍🏻
Lazareta also offers decent bread to go with the hummus, authentic, good quality! The other Arabic restaurants in town that I've tried all offer a chewy, oily, burnt dough, that sits like a lump in the gut. I'm so glad to find 1 Arabic restaurant that gets it right! This has been a heartsore for me for 3 months!
Regarding the hummus, perhaps add more tahini and don't add whatever you're adding that makes it taste sweet. If you achieve these 2 points, I'll give you 5 stars for the perfect hummus. Also, let your waiters check up on the clients a bit more often. But 10/10 to them for being accommodating towards my dietary needs. Thank you! I'm also questioning the "green tea", it's black tea. Need to check your supplier. But really glad to see you offer green coffee, Arabic style, with dates! That's very authentic! This cannot be found easily in Surabaya or Indonesia. But I just found out you don't have it in stock anymore. I hope you can source the green beans again to offer this amazing coffee. Try to source from Malaysia. (I saw many for sale on Lazada Malaysia). Well...
Read moreFirst time visiting here. Here’s my review
Chicken curry - the chicken come cold, we asked the waitress to reheat the thing, n they kindly enough to adress our problem, taste wise is awesome, it also got a big chicken dice in it. (4/5)
Kufta dujaj - the chicken r so tasty, the bread is so soft, i really love the dish, even my wife who never eat middle eastern food said that the food is so good. I dip the bread into the curry aswell n its so dang good. (5/5)
Chicken shawarma - it’s just a regular shawarma, but chicken taste bland, not really a fan of this one. (2/5)
Oum Ali - just like what every other reviewer said, it’s worth trying. (4/5)
Service was awesome, everyone is eager to help us n so friendly (5/5)
Price wise is cheap considered u get a big portion compare to the regular restaurant in Indonesia. It got a size like Australian meal, so food price ratio is kinda cheap, 10$ for a good meal in a nice restaurant is kinda cheap. (5/5)
Would definitely come back n recommend this to everyone. My wife can’t wait to try everything...
Read moreThat was my first time trying their foods, i ordered mukabillat and shami bread cause i was wanting to eat a vegetarian meal. The mukabillat consist of 4 dippings which are baba ganouj, mutabbal, hummus and mouamarra. I like the mouamarra the most cause it was kinda refreshing, flavourful, i can taste the sweetness and i also love the fragrance, but the consistency was a bit watery for me maybe the ratio between red bell paper/tomato with the nuts/anything in their recipe was suppose to be like that.. im not quite sure but i still enjoy it anyway. The mutabbal and baba ganouj were okay, nothing wow about it, and for the hummus, it was too tangy for my taste. Was it suppose to taste that tangy? I think the chef put a bit too much lemon, but when i dip the shami bread into it, the bread helped to calm the tangy down so over all it was pretty satisfying for me. Anybody who's vegetarian or wanting to try middle eastern foods i recommend this...
