Out of thousand visits, this gotta be my worst experience with them and what made it worst was it’s valentine dinner with my lover.
[]First, we made reservation in advance without being informed that they will only serve set menu for valday dinner (Well it’s partly my fault for not asking). So instead of having our usual fave menus, we were served with very dryyy wagyu beef for the main course! I know they were kinda packed and crowded, but for a 5stars hotel standard? It’s truly unacceptable. [**]Second, the air con was broken and the restaurant was packed. It was very hot that i took their set menu paper for cooling me down. []Third, i’ve asked the waitress, who took the order, whether we can order the a la carte menu or not, she said no. However, in the middle of the dinner, i saw my fave sushi (obviously a la carte, cuz the set menu didnt include sushi) was served to the other table. So out of curiosity when i took the bill i asked (another, again) waitress can we actually order a la carte menu. She said, “Yes, because you’ve ordered the set menu.” I was blurred and answered, “But the other waitress said no”. Then, she continued, “You should’ve just insisted more”.
I just totally can’t believe i was sitting in a Japanese restaurant at Shangrila, on Valentine’s Day night sweating with a plate of dry wagyu beef on the plate in front of me. Seriously, Shangri-La? S.O.P? Looking forward for a...
Read moreOne of a very few places in town that still maintain the quality of their products. Fresh sashimi. Look at the maguro. Thick cut. Salmon has always been divine. Their maki is surprisingly good. Proper slices. Fresh tempura. Zen soba has proper texture. The chicken and braised eggplants remind me of nikujaga. The taste is balanced. Chawan mushi is on the house because the restaurant staff sent the wrong order. I wonder why they no longer have shrimp with their chawan mushi instead of kani. Kani is good but I’d like shrimp so much better on my chawan mushi. The highlight of this weekend lunch is going to be the sweet ebi sushi. Really close to what I had back in Ginza. I’m happy that this place stands the test of time. Good to be back. Worth every penny. Highly...
Read moreVery expensive for the poor quality of food. Not really taste like Japanese, but more westerner food. Over cooked meet, sauce 100% not Japanese... And so on! We were very surprised by the poor quality actually. We even don't finished as at least for me, it was simply not good. I'm used to eat Japanese actually, and this is not Japanese food. Looks like, but don't taste like. For good Japanese food, go to mall pakuwan, last floor and there is one of the best Japanese restaurant in all Surbaya! So sorry to have to write this, but when you paid 850k for two people, we expect...
