I don't understand why there are so many bad reviews of Rumah Kayu. I'm guessing there was either a major change of quality at the Villa, or the reviews were written by prissy tourists who will never be satisfied with a place that isn't an exact replica of their first world capitalist country. At $22 USD per night, it's worth every penny. (And if you stay more than 5 days they will give you a slight price break to $20.)||||My friend and I absolutely loved Rumah Kayu. Always with a smile and making sure we had everything we needed, the staff went above and beyond the call of duty. When we left, Oi even accompanied us to the harbor to make sure we got the local price for a boat to Lombok.||||The room was spacious and clean with a big, comfortable bed. The bathroom was open air and gorgeous. The pool was pristine and refreshing. Breakfast was standard inclusive breakfast of pancakes and eggs, but tasty and filling. Also, fresh orange juice! None of that gross Tang nonsense. We felt so comfortable and at home here that I even shamelessly hooked up my phone to the speaker system to play music while relaxing poolside.||||The beach is about a 10 minute walk away. It was nice to stay off the busy main drag and see that there is actually a village of Indonesians living amongst the tourists. I know that sounds crazy -- yes, of course there are Indonesians living in Indonesia -- but Gili Trawangan is the "party island" that pretty much caters to Westerners as a policy.||||Overall, 5 stars! Read moreWe came here every day during our week long stay on the island. There was an error with our order every single time. The “manager” took my undercooked pancakes and offered me another option. Great! I didn’t even ask for the difference in price, but she insisted on giving me a discount. Another time i ordered a vegetarian English muffin with hummus. They bring out a pink as can be beetroot hummus. Hmm, no! Allergies? They returned the plate and got me plain eggs on an English muffin when I asked for a bagel. Again, didn’t bother mentioning it. They didn’t refund the 25k+ difference and I didn’t ask them to. The next day they charge me twice for the same order which I realize when the food is brought to our table. I suggested to get us coffee instead of a refund. The waitress come back and asks for the difference. I rudely told her that they kept my money the day before so they can grant me a coffee today!! The food is bad on the island so this is your best choice, and that’s saying something. The food is too salty, and “messy”. It feels like a chain tbh.
Now the service! The girls are amazing. They’re friendly and helpful. They’re also the reason we went back every day.
P.S. they have...
