Soma is a place full of amazing subtleties that you don't really take in until you've had repeated visits. I'm a coffee nerd and total fanboy after regular visits for a few months now. The coffee is amazing; with either West Cork Coffee or Koppi;-Swedish. Arguably best coffee in the city.
They offer certain vegan treats(I think!) for anyone who's into that, non dairy milk varieties;-soya, cashew, almond and oat and regular milk of course. The cakes are really, really good.
The cool bits extend beyond the coffee;-the interior architecture so to speak will take you in. ACME coffee cups and spoons for awesome foam and crema. The signage for the menu is super minimalist. The floor looks like poured resin over the bare concrete. Dark blue walls and a mix of black mild steel and solid wood furniture. Eames dsw chairs and a couch in the back. Normally some good house music being played which adds to the atmosphere. Its just cool all around.
The best thing about it is that its really chilled out. It's nice to have your coffee brought to you if you are sitting down. Everything in SOMA is really well considered and its a true outlier compared to everywhere else in the city. Cant recommend...
Read morePassionate and knowledgeable baristas serving great coffee. What more could you want? This shop has very nice vibes and friendly staff who greet you the moment you walk in. Even whilst busy I was able to engage in deep conversation with the barista about the coffees they had on offer along with great coffees we have both tried in different places. This for me is what drinking coffee is about, it’s more than a drink it should be a sensory experience. While there I had a great Natural Brazilian espresso along with a very flavourful washed Kenyan on v60 (Did someone say blackcurrant?) 100% will return when back in Cork again, hopefully when less busy so I can talk more...
Read moreOne of the few speciality coffee spots in cork city. You have Pink Moon on Washington street too.
This spot is also a roaster and you’ll see here coffee sold all around Ireland.
The desserts and cakes they sell are amazing, they come from a small cork bakery I believe.
The vibe inside is very cool and they sell lots of speciality coffee equipment, good prices on filters too, no need to buy online.
The outdoor seating in the newly pedestrianised street is the best spot when it’s sunny.
I think the outdoor area could be even nicer with plants and more stuff added.
Overall one of the best coffee shops I’ve been to. So nice to see speciality...
