Life is Good and Enzio will treat you well. Sicilian born came over her to fill Irish bellies with good old fashioned food. The food, service and atmosphere was fantastic. Hubby was a little upset I didn't try an actual Italian dish, but that was my fault really. As I was seduced by the 17oz Tbone steak. Very tasty and huge. A real treat which I enjoyed thoroughly. Wifey had a better idea, when in Rome, you try the Ravioli with slow braised meat. Damn hubby was jealous... I dream of the carbonara or the meat balls or even the seafood plates. Wifey ravioli was so smooth with creamy tomato sauce. Absolutely delicious. Either way Hubby and Wifey highly recommend visiting. Sadly tucked away in plain sight so you must keep an eye out and eat here. The only negative is the place only accepts cash. Not a major issue, but in this day an age it's hard to remember to actually bring money. Of course cash machines are nearby... But worth it. The other slight negative is that the restaurant is built in an old Irish home. As I visited the gents, a few of the ceilings and narrow hallways weren't designed the taller man. Enzio is such a character. Friendly and wants to make a good impression. From taking the time to talk and pronounce his name for you, spelling it out. Wifey really like him. As he prepared a small wine tasting to make sure she order the right bottle for her. Her new favorite person. Afterwards... Completey stuffed. We had to try the tiramisu. Alcohol free, but still packed with flavours. Out of all Italian restaurants out of Castlebar and Westport this place rates in our top three. The food here is great and we will be back. Will have to come very hungry so we have have a...
Read moreThis is a great little Italian Restaurant. We have been traveling around Ireland for about 2 months, and most of the Italian fare we experienced has been underwhelming: Chips with your lasagna? The owner, I want to say Enzio, but I'm not sure, is from Palermo and the food is excellent. We started with a vegetarian Arancini, risotto balls made with mushrooms and mozzarella, with a little flower on top. My wife is gluten intolerant and they had no trouble providing gluten free pasta. I love carbonara and they did a great job. None of this fake cream sauce, they made it with fresh eggs. The wine list was small, but very good, there is enough for any taste. We also were able to get an Aperol Spritz before dinner. As I mentioned with the flowers on the Arancini, the presentation was great and the staff attentive. And to top off the evening, it had been a long day for us, we were tired and it was raining. We couldn't find a taxi and went back to ask if they could call one for us. They couldn't find a taxi either, but they did not leave us hanging, and arranged for us to get a ride back to our AirBnB. Above and Beyond. If you are in Westport and crave authentic Italian cuisine, drop into...
Read moreA good restaurant has great food and ambience. What makes a restaurant great is its front-of-house staff. La Bella Vita has all three qualities in droves. We visited during a heatwave where the seating was restricted to outside only. This brought a further, authentic Italian element to the night. The menu was small but everything was tempting and, as hoped for, the food was delicious and beautifully presented. Home made ravioli with a sumptuous sauce was just one of the choices. This was real Italian food using the best Irish meat and fish also. One of us has special dietary requirements and I mentioned this on booking. As soon as we arrived the waiter/maitre d’ remembered me and treated her like a Princess. He informed us that the day’s menu had been planned with her requirements in mind and she could choose from most of the menu. Eating out is a game of Russian roulette for us at times and our special requirements are often treated as a problem for the chef or a risk not worth taking. La Bella Vita is a Great restaurant though, with the best staff, and I wish them continued success when they open up...
