Last summer, I treated myself to a solo breakfast at Shoe Lane Coffee in Dún Laoghaire. It was one of those gentle mornings—bright but not glaring, with a breeze that hinted at the sea just down the road. I sat by the window with a hot breakfast and a perfectly made coffee, and for the first time in a while, didn’t feel the need to be anywhere else. There’s something comforting about watching the world move while you’re still. From my seat, I had the perfect view of the town slowly waking up—people heading to work, parents guiding sleepy children, dog-walkers pausing to chat. All of it flowed by like a calm tide. The breakfast itself was simple but hearty—fresh, warm, and satisfying. The atmosphere inside was cozy but not too busy, just a soft hum of background music and the occasional hiss of the espresso machine. It felt like the right place to be alone without feeling lonely. I didn’t rush. I let the moment stretch out, sipping slowly and just observing. That morning reminded me how grounding it can be to pause, to look around, and to appreciate the little rhythms of...

won't be running back there for coffee or anything else, even if they open early, just wait for Insomnia at 08.30 down the road

staff are just following a script, they don't care what you think, just order pay and go away, they even had a attitude when i asked for 2 brown sugars, lol coffee sizes are 'tiny', tables outside are dirty and tables really close to each other in a pandemic :-) the whole counter set-up is so impersonal, so detached, so distanced, the HSE is better and thats saying something. They need someone to run it with personality, someone experienced who...

We ordered 2 hot chocolates and one mocha and it came to around €12-€13. As the waitress was bringing out the mocha it was very windy and it spilled all over my sisters coat and stained her hoodie. This wasn’t the waitresses fault however, she only gave a small “I’m sorry” and walked off. A simple tissue or compensation for the expensive beverage could’ve changed our experience fully. With those prices you would expect the bare minimum. However they also forgot my sisters hot chocolate and we had to go up to them to get it. There was no apology. I’m very...

Was excited to try the pastries but unfortunately disappointing. The croissant was a strange oversized shape, and tasted like a long life sweet bread. Didn’t taste like baked same day or a typical croissant. First pic is Shoe Lane croissant and second pic is same croissant next to another one from near by at same price (which was decent taste and texture). If the croissants have such low standards, I won’t be back for any other menu item👎

Love the ambience of this place inside and out, DL is my happy place and this coffee shop is smack in the middle of it. I was so happy to try their matcha latte and it didn’t disappoint We tried the carrot cake and chia raspberry cake, both amazingly delicious. Their hot chocolate for me is a hit or miss all the time. Clean toilet also. Love their indoor lights and big windows, very cozy. Highly recommended and want to come back again!
