1 Star was too generous, honestly.
Went here after reading it as one of Dublin’s bucket list restaurants.
Firstly - they didn’t answer the phone - I rang 6 times between 12pm and 4pm on a Sunday to make a reservation for 2 people for 4:15.
We walked in, the place was freezing and we stood for 5 mins waiting to be greeted.
The restaurant was FREEZING. Everyone had their coats on. The restaurant was not busy at all, less than half full, yet the 6 or 7 staff walking about were doing very little, slowest service ever. One guy behind the bar who was very rude.
The prices in this place are laughable - €22.50 for a Sunday roast!!! You’d pay a bit more than that in any 5 star restaurant in Dublin.
It took 15 minutes after ordering for a dirty beer glass and a warm, dead beer to arrive (€7 beer). It took 55 minutes between ordering and our dinner arriving.
Stone cold- no exaggeration. My lamb rump was full of fat, inedible, couldn’t be cut with my knife. I spat the first bite out. The roast potatoes were burnt, hard and soggy on the inside. The broccoli was hard. No gravy at all. Carrots were hard. Mashed potato was soggy, lumpy bits in it. Whole thing was as if it had been sitting out for an hour.
I took 2-3 bites and decided enough was enough.
Extremely disappointed after all the talk about L.Mulligan Grocer. Whatever name it has carried in Dublin is deserved no longer, this place has went to the dogs as there were other complaints too- we could hear.
The manager was a young blonde American lady, who seemed oblivious and insincere to our complaint. Our server left the restaurant and went home when we complained about the dinner being freezing. We asked her if we could speak to the manager, no one appeared and we waited 15 mins further before anyone came. So I came into this restaurant at 4:15 and after 2 bites of inedible food I left the restaurant starving at 5:50 and charged €60 for 2 drinks and 2 Sunday dinners.
The chef was out walking about coughing and spluttering all over his hands and wiping his nose. The music is absolutely dreadful, doesn’t suit the bar.
The price of the food, temperature of restaurant, level of service, quality of food, general atmosphere, all appalling - 2/10. Will never be back, the most over rated restaurant in Dublin, and the worst experience I’ve had since moving here...
Read moreBased on a independent.ie article about the best places to eat in Dublin I went here for a 3 course meal for two. The food was good but not great and the staff made so many errors that it was frustrating. I was given a vegetarian scotch egg when I had asked for the regular one (the waitress decided to memorize our order rather than write it down) This wasn't a big deal, it tasted great and I wasn't going to send it back and have to wait for my starter as we had already been waiting a while since ordering. The main was slow cooked beef and it was tasty but the menu says it comes with veg and what they should say is that you get 3 small cubes of turnip on the plate. They also couldn't be bothered to peel the lonely, single baby carrot that was thrown on the plate which meant it was tough and chewy. The gratin style potato was the best thing on the plate. Very well done. A portion of chips we ordered to accompany a steak never arrived (a quick note in a notepad by the wait staff would have helped here) and after making them aware of this they apologised said they would be out in a few minutes. I'm still waiting on these chips. I have forwarded the restaurant my mail address and hope to receive them in time for next summer. The steak came with a slab of garlic butter so large and cold that it refused to melt and made the steak cold. Dessert was great and the crumble and chocolate mousse we're both tasty but for a close to €100 bill for two people I wouldn't be bothered coming back. Way too many places in Dublin (especially Stoneybatter) offering better food, service, and pricing. More effort spent on the food and service as opposed to giving you a menu in an old, worn out, hardback novel would probably see this place being deserving of the reputation it...

It was a busy evening in Mulligans when we entered, but they managed to sort us with a seat up the front. Was a little chilly beside the door, but all good, as we are two fit, strapping, young men, not nearly 40 years old yet.
We wrapped our scarves a little tighter around our man necks and soldiered bravely on.
Mulligans is a traditional Irish Pub that serves great locally sourced food and craft beer that is for the most part from Ireland.
It's fitted out like the best of Irish Pubs. You're sheltered in nooks, crannies, and snugs of ancient oak.
Drinks wise, you won't find any of the big commercial stuff here, but the craft beers are well worth exploring.
My favourite is the Whiplash Pale Ale. A floral flavour without being overwhelming. Nice and easy to drink.
The stout is decent but is probably not for everyone. Big flavours in it. More than hints of vanilla, and licorice, making it acceptable for one or two, before the taste buds are overwhelmed.
You definitely wouldn't sink as many as you would a traditional creamer. At least not in my book.
The food in Mulligans is excellent.
My pal had the pork belly and I had a delicious venison burger. Pal reported that the pork belly was absolutely delectable.
A little bit of a wait for the food, but was well worth it when it arrived.
I've been to Mulligans a few times now and have yet to be disappointed. Service is never super quick, but now I expect a wait, and always enjoy the delicious grub.
Have to say the staff are lovely and prices are reasonable.
Mulligans is...
