Underwhelming. We have been longstanding & regular diners both here in the restaurant & below in the bar. Annually on our anniversary & his Birthday we book a table & order the chateaubriand… usually we struggle to finish the steak. Tonight, when the chateaubriand was presented at the table, I was disappointed & underwhelmed. I told the waiter that we regularly order the chateaubriand here & couldn’t believe how small it was this time. The metal serving dish was a single portion size & did not fit the wooden block inset; the usual size chateaubriand dish fills the wooden block. The waiter listened but failed to replace chateaubriand with a normal size portion. He did return later with 3 medallions of steak to “top up” the portion. The medallions were a different cut of meat so we didn’t eat them. The food was good though. The steak was cooked perfectly & very tasty, as were the usual accompaniments. The portion size was ridiculously small. Usually we struggle to finish the chateaubriand. Tonight we cleaned the plates & left hungry. Last year the chateaubriand priced circa €70… tonight it was €105. A sizeable increase for half the portion. I buy steak from Buckleys in Moore st. So I’m more than familiar with steak sizes; I ask them to cut the steak size in front of me to order. I’m so disappointed with the portion size tonight. I can’t believe the waiter didn’t offer to replace the chateaubriand rather than bring out 3 medallions of steak to top the dish up… On the way home we stopped by Boston Pizza to get something to eat to satisfy our hunger… For the last 7 years we frequentled Ryan’s steakhouse. We won’t be back.

Edit: Unfortunately I have had to change my review from 5 to 2 stars because of my recent experience. Wanted to repeat the experience below but got the opposite. Food poor - beef was terrible quality, the complete polar to the excellent beef previously. Service was shocking. The two older of the three bar tenders down stairs couldn't care less and were borderline rude. Too busy online betting on their phones to deal with customers. I asked the waitress for horseradish sauce and was told to "ask the barman, I don't work down here". When I asked the barman, I was told it was on the plate. It wasn't, that's why I asked. I won't ever return. I'll stick to Bull and Castle or Pembroke. Had Sunday lunch here this week. Without doubt the best Sunday lunch I have had in the City. We were one of the first tables to arrive so it was pretty quiet to begin with but filled up soon after. We both had the roast beef which was delicious and good value. Service was quick and friendly. Will definitely be back.

We ordered oysters, maple and sesame chicken wings, pil pil octopus and the chicken and leek pie with spring onion mash with a side of crispy chips. The fresh oysters tasted really savoury with the lemon, shallot vinaigrette and a bit of tabasco sauce and was refreshing to have on a hot day in Dublin. The chicken wings were beautifully balanced in terms of saltiness, sweetness and umami. The wings went well with the deliciously tart octopus which were all tender and on par with how good Mediterranean restaurants cook their octopus. Finally, the chicken and leek pie was sensational in terms of flavour and textures. All the food we ordered were presented nicely and were all reasonably priced. Our waitress was also very attentive and friendly. W Ryan’s is a great place for drinks and light bites - the oysters and the octopus were the highlights of our meal!

Had a great trip home to Dublin and stopped into Ryans on Good Friday for a proper steak. My partner had the chicken dish, which was beautifully cooked and full of flavour. I went for the 500g striploin, asking for it to be cut narrow and thick—like a New York strip, which is my preference. They absolutely nailed it. The steak was perfectly cooked and they made the effort to find a cut that matched what I was after, which I really appreciated. Paired it with a lovely Malbec that worked perfectly with the beef. Top tip get the deviled kidneys starter

Our server—a Hungarian gentleman whose name I didn’t catch, was excellent: attentive, friendly, and clearly knew his stuff. We got chatting about dessert wines and he brought out a bottle that wasn’t even listed on the menu. A 2016 Château Laville Sauternes, and it was exactly what I was looking for—spot on.

The dining room is warm, cosy, and full of old-school charm. Ryans has a real character to it. The bar downstairs is part of the same place and just adds to the experience. It’s a stone’s throw from the Guinness Brewery, and the pints there are some of the freshest and best you’ll find.

If you’re in Dublin and in the mood for a great steak in a proper setting, Ryans is absolutely...

Had the most amazing dining experience ever and it was all down to customer service. I visited with my family (including a baby and a toddler). Arrived 45min early and was immediately accommodated in the bar downstairs (which was full btw), the waitress found us some chairs to sit at the bar so i could take the baby out and enjoy a drink. The host checked in on us down at the bar and told us he was trying to get our table ready earlier than our booking time; the table got ready earlier and the staff helped carry the large buggy up the stairs. The entire staff was very friendly to us and the children, constantly engaging with my toddler. Even though is a small restaurant, mostly adults, we were treated from arrival to departure like VIP customers and as a mother os 2 small children I was dreading the experience of going for dinner at such a nice restaurant with the kids but the staff, particularly the host, were outstanding! The food as always at FX Buckley was delicious, the starters were particularly tasty and the steak was cooked...
