Read moreas a fully japanese person residing in ireland, i like to try so-called “japanese restaurants” around the country, and i stumbled upon mizu during my trip in killarney. off the bat, i was thrown off by the misplaced letter at the front of the restaurant (where it says 鉄板焼き 居酒屋). and then a huge european chandelier in the center of asian/japanese atmosphere restaurant. and then the waitresses’s uniforms. men’s were okay, but women’s looks like half a kimono… not sure what they’re meant to be that’s not disrespectful to the culture. menu has lots of typos, both in japanese and english. when i go to a sketchy japanese restaurant which at this point i’ve figured that it’s sketchy, i just order a curry because nobody can go wrong with japanese style curry(just throw in couple cubes of golden curry!)… but mizu went wrong. it was some curry alright but it definitely wasn’t japanese curry. it had some spices that i would only taste in east asian restaurants. katsu chicken was nice and crispy, but very bland so i got bored of the blandness pretty quickly. overall, im fairly disappointed in this restaurant. i wouldn’t be surprised if there was no japanese person involved in the development of this restaurant, it is a shame people would visit this restaurant believing this is what japanese food is like. i’m giving two stars though just because the staffs were lovely. two young girls served me and they were humble...
Read moreI came here with my partner to celebrate her becoming an Irish citizen today. Where do I even begin.
I don't want to outright blame the wait staff - the place looked understaffed and the waitresses overworked. In my opinion, the person who did the roster should have known to have more people working (people getting their citizenships today). Because of this, our drinks took 30 minutes to arrive (i think the waitress forgot to put it in), and our food 40. To add, the miso soup is supposed to come with the food, and not when you're almost done. We saw 2 groups of people beside us get their food, finish, and leave before we got ours. Had to tell wait staff twice for the bill also.
The food itself tasted fine, however the curry felt too watery to be to curry, and my norimaki rolls felt tiny compared to other places I've been to.
The atmosphere itself was amazing. Fantastic, traditional music is playing and there's some nice art around.
We had an incredibly long drive, we were starving. I have no doubt this place is great, we probably just got unlucky, but it's disappointing having to wait 30 minutes for the drinks to even arrive when the drive to Killarney took 3 hours, and it took 2 hours to even drive out of the citizenship event.
Plan ahead in the future :p
For context: it's an incredibly important day for many families today. There were only 2 waitresses, a manager, and the...
