Ordered a simple takeaway from Raha Indian, nothing extravagant, just the kind of meal you'd use to placate your soul after a long Tuesday. Collection was meant to be 17:20. I stroll in at 17:17. where I'm informed everything is ready except the naan, which will take a cheerful five minutes. Fine. I've waited longer for software updates.
Cut to twenty minutes later: I'm still sat there like an abandoned SIM character, eventually forced to flag down a member of staff who behaves as though I've suddenly spawned into view. "Two more minutes.' they insist, like a broken loading bar. Ten more minutes pass. Another reminder. Another "two minutes." At this point I've spent longer waiting for this naan than the human attention span has been able to cope with since the invention of the smartphone.
Finally, the mystical naan emerges, glorious, fresh, and piping hot. Shame the rest of the food had seemingly been cryogenically preserved since my arrival.
They swear they'll cook everything fresh. What actually happens? They reheat the jalfrezi, pair it lovingly with rice and onion bhajis now colder than a tax inspector's handshake, and send me on my way.
I explain, calmly, rationally, like someone not on the brink of weeping at the sight of reheated curry, that I should've been given the choice to wait or take a refund. I would've chosen the refund. They apologise. And that's it. No goodwill gesture. No attempt to salvage goodwill. Just me, my lukewarm dinner. and the creeping realisation that I may as well have set fire to my own time and money and eaten the ashes.
Verdict: A profoundly disappointing experience. If this was an episode of the Twilight Zone, the twist would be that I go home, finally eat the naan, and it turns out to be spectacular just to make the rest of the chaos sting even more. But no. It was just average. The rest? Cold enough to qualify as an Arctic field ration.
One star, because the naan at least showed up...
Read moreI've been a regular customer of Raha and have always enjoyed their food, so I was really disappointed with a recent experience. I placed a large delivery order the other day, and while the food was mostly great as usual, one of the pilau rice portions was clearly off. As I started eating, I immediately noticed a strange smell and mushy texture. The taste was hard to identify since it was mixed with Rogan Josh, but something definitely didn’t seem right. I tried comparing it with the other pilau rice portions we had, and it became very clear, one portion smelled sour and fermented, with a strong and unpleasant odour. I called Raha to let them know, and their response was underwhelming. The lady on the phone was very dismissive and didn’t really understand my concern over the rice being spoilt. When the manager answered, they offered to exchange the rice, but there was no real apology or accountability. I decided to bring the rice down myself so they could see and smell the issue directly. The manager mentioned it may have been a batch that should have been thrown out or possibly contaminated with yogurt. Again, I was only offered a replacement, which I declined since my meal was already finished. What upset me most is that I was never contacted again with a proper explanation, apology, or follow-up. I felt genuinely concerned about food safety, especially after developing an upset stomach that lasted three days. I got some over the counter meds and all was good. However, I did not appreciate how casually the situation was handled. We've had issues before with late deliveries and missing items, but got over it because the food is so delicious but this time it’s crossed the line. My family and I have always loved the food from Raha, but after this experience, I’m left with a bad taste in my mouth, both literally and figuratively. I don’t think I’ll...
Read moreAs a picky eater and a cook, I can be disappointed by restaurant food if it's below my quality standards. Well let me tell you, Raha did not disappoint. My partner and I are fans of Indian food, but most restaurants in town are hit or miss for me. I highly recommend trying Raha if you haven't yet or if you're visiting town because it is stunning food. Dine in to get the best experience. Everything was fresh, crisp, so flavorful without being needlessly hot. I don't mind some heat but I love when I can taste the delicate and rich flavours of spices. The service was lovely also. The place is beautifully decorated in rich color tones, someone really has an eye for decor and we noticed. As for the price, I believe the price is fair for the quality of the food you receive. I've paid more for meals around town and wasn't as impressed with the quality and presentation of the food. Look at the menu for prices if you're unsure budget wise, but if you want to treat yourself, the quality is worth it. Thanks for a great experience.
For the restaurant: We'd love to hear some Indian traditional music on our next visit, as we'll definitely be back. ^^ The piano pop songs weren't too bad but we thought it would add to the atmosphere to hear something more traditional to add to the experience. Just...
