Let's start with the fact that Michelin stars primarily reflect the assessment of cuisine: it encompasses the quality of ingredients, the intricacies of preparation, the harmonious blend of flavors, the chef's originality, and the presentation of dishes. However, they can also take into account factors such as the level of service, wine selection, service quality, atmosphere, and interior.
So, what did the restaurant earn its star for? Perhaps for the ambiance of an old pub? Or for utterly ordinary service? Maybe for extraordinary dishes?
For me, it was the most disappointing restaurant visit. The dishes were so mediocre and uninspiring that I regretted spending our money. The scallops were cooked in reused oil, which was very evident. The second dish was just steamed fish, so bland that I wanted to ask for Heinz ketchup to add some flavor. It was served on a spinach cushion that was overcooked and soggy. Look at the appearance of these dishes, is this really Michelin quality?
My dessert tasted like a regular store-bought cookie. What was delicious was the ice cream.
Oh, I almost forgot. The complimentary bread had such a tough crust on the dark bread (probably with flax seeds or something) that, despite my strong teeth, I was concerned about them. It's absurd. I wouldn't recommend it.
Can high-quality food really lead to indigestion the next morning? My husband and I didn't feel well.
Ireland is a beautiful country, but if you want to enjoy a delicious meal, I suggest going home and cooking or booking a plane...
Read moreAmazing dining experience in Waterford! We saved this restaurant to visit as soon as we saw it on Micheline guide. Restaurant downstairs look like a wine cellar and have partitions in between the tables. All the staffs are very attentive and witty as well. We started off with white port with tonic and 12 acres single malt larger. White port was like really refreshing lemon cocktail. I loved it. 12 acres was similar to hop house. For starter, scallops and pork belly. I liked scallops too but pork belly was beyond the level. Ah the poached egg as well. Exceptional! I almost licked the plate. For main, fillet beef and halibut (Replacing Monkfish on that day). Both amazing. Beef was so tender and perfectly cooked. Mashed potato on the side with some shrimp butter sauce was perfect bite. It was very buttery and great addition to the main dish. Dessert, we’ve got Rhubarb and cheeses. Rhubarb base was crusty and soft inside. Soft cheese was very overwhelming for us but the rest cheeses...
Read moreComing back to Ireland after a few years in Dubai and having Covid, were now living in New Ross. Decided to step out again and try "local" restaurants in Waterford and Wexford. The standard of service and the food was excellent. We sat in the cove next to the bar and Johnny was super. He looked after us and my wife VERY QUICKLY bonded with Johnny. Very surprisingly we both had the same dinner - seared scallops to start with and fillet of monkfish for dinner with an extra veg of carrot with almonds, to be followed by a cheese platter. It was absolutely a joy of flavours. We have a special word for it - foodgasm... My wife didn't want the extra carrot, but once she tasted it there was a fierce tussle to ensure she got her fair share. I was driving so had the dry oloroso sherry as a starter and a glass of port to finish. My wife had prosecco followed by a glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Not cheap, but very reasonable for the quality. Definitely on our...
