Ahavat Hayam — Restaurant in Jerusalem

We loved this secret Jerusalem fish restaurant. We are a family visiting Israel from the US and were the only non local people eating there when we went last week. The location is hidden and improbable but the hunt to find the place is well worth it.

All the fish was delicious and very fresh. We had grilled lavrak (sea bass), salmon, and fried mullet. The potatoes and salads that came with the food were also delicious.

The menu is prix fixe depending on what fish you order. All were in the range of 150-165 nis including salads, drinks, fish, and dessert. The value was good considering the quality.

Service was friendly and helpful. They have fish tanks that were fun for kids to look at.

הטוב: האוכל ברובו טעים מאוד. הדג היה מצוין, הצ'יפס טוב, הטחינה, החציל, ועוד סלט או שניים היו מדהימים. חלק מהסלטים רגילים, אבל שום דבר לא נפילה. הכמות אחלה. מגישים בשפע. אני אישית מאוד אהבתי את העיצוב של המקום את האווירה שהעיצוב השרה. השירות מצוין ואדיב, אם כי הייתי בשעה דיי ריקה אז לא יודע לומר איך השירות כשהמסעדה מלאה. האוכל מוכן במהירות.

מה פחות אהבתי: הבעיה העיקרית - המחיר. 185 ש"ח (בלי טיפ..) לארוחה זו קצת הגזמה לדעתי. אין לך כסועד הרבה בחירה. הדבר היחיד שניתן להזמין במסעדה זו ארוחה ב-185 ש"ח, שהיא אמנם עשירה וכוללת קינוח, אבל זה לא יתאים לסועד שמעוניין רק בחלק מן החבילה הזו. אתה בוחר את הדג, אבל התוספת זה רק צ'יפס/ תפו"א אפוי. הלחם שמגיע עם הסלטים זה פיתות בתנור עם זעטר - שוב בלי בחירה או התראה. לא בחרתי קינוח, פשוט קיבלתי אותו (בקלאווה לצד כדור גלידה). אישית עבורי זה היה אחלה כי במקרה אני אוהב את כל מה שהם הגישו, והכל היה טעים. אז בהחלט נהניתי מהחוויה. אבל זה עלול לתסכל סועד שלא אוהב את מה שהוא במקרה מקבל. זה גם מוריד מהתמריץ לחזור למסעדה, אם אתה יודע שלא תוכל לבחור בחוויה שונה. ברעיון הזה שהמסעדה פשוט מעניקה לך חוויה שהשף קבע עבורך יש אלמנט של קסם, אבל גם הרבה חסרונות. הקינוח יכל להיות יותר מושקע עבור המחיר.

Certainly a hidden gem and a very underrated restaurant. I would reccomend the salmon. When I was there, it was 150 shekel for tapas, the main, and dessert. The service was great and the food was tasty. I would definitely go again.
