Just found out what a Hachapuri was about a week ago and happened to find this popular place near the Mahane Yehuda market on Friday early afternoon. The place was heaving, which was a good sign. The order taking was a bit chaotic, and there was no way of knowing whether we would get a place to sit down. They told us that it would take 1/2 hour for our order to be ready, and that we would have to "arrange" for a table ourselves. So we went to a nearby bar and had a few drinks and then came back after 1/2 hour to the Hachapuria to pick up our order of 4 hachapuris (they had different names, but one type was with egg and cheese and the other was with beans) and a salad. Anyways, we had to fight a bit to get a table but it helped that we had my 91 year old father in law with us which made it easier to get a table since people felt sorry for him standing up. I'm not sure how easy it would have been to get a table otherwise. The food itself was delicious, a combination of pizza with breakfast style ingredients. The atmosphere was also great if you like busy places with a bit of a hassle to get a table... I would go there again but maybe I will try on a...
Read moreTasty Gachapuri breads topped with melted cheese from Geogria. Baked fresh to order. Self service. Only a few tables and very very popular. Overall worth trying and a good alternative to a slice of pizza.
I had eaten Gachapuri before at a Georgian restaurant in Haifa. Gachapuri prices were the same despite the latter being a full service restaurant rather than a bakery stand. Expected. Did not expect that the Gachapuri in this Jerusalem stand will not be as good as in the Haifa restaurant - some unbaked parts, cheese a bit too salty, egg a bit overcooked.
If you want really good Gachapuri or try it for the first time then go to a better restaurant. if you want a quick bite visiting the market then it is still one of the best choices. The long lines are justified. I would go back on...
Read moreHachapuri was brilliant! When we came to the place it was full and lady even didn't want us to wait when the table will get free. We were not happy and my wife told she would go anywhere else. At this time, probably, the owner came and he said that we may wait and they will seat us when they will have free table. We waited for a while, but got seated. They do not have much of variety of Georgian cuisine, but Hachapuri was great. My wife and me took 2 different kinds and we both were happy. Price tag was also good :) Just one suggestion - have some queueing in place, so that people that are coming and wanting to get in be welcome. Sorry, no pictures, was busy...
