We arrived for dinner at Abie , 4 people including one that is vegan. First of all I would like to point out that although we have reserved the place about 10 days in advance- we got the worst spot inside - near the door where it was cold .We were told by the host that the only other available table was for 5 people - shortly after- she seated there a party of 4! I would say that the shift supervisor tried to his best ability to make us warm with the heaters…
Regarding the food- There were 2 seafood dishes that tasted nice but the biggest disappointment was the size - Shrimp ceviche- barley 2 shrimps chopped up in a 63 NIS course!! Compared to it - the grilled shrimp dish was gigantic - featuring 5 small shrimp for the price of 78 NIS - can hardly be called a main course. I loved the Smoked Palamida on toast, and the Fava bean paste was also great. The Majadra dish- I didn't taste it but was told it was good, although again - exceptionally small for the price.. it's not even fish nor meat- just a Majadra. The roasted artichoke - O.K dish.. The star of the meal was the smoke Palamida fillet – grilled to perfection, accompanied by a wonderful potato puree with brown butter that had a lovely caramel taste. Being a place with lots of vegetable forward dishes- there are many options for vegetarian/vegans... Bottom line- inconsistent dishes, bad score on VFM, good veg options. Don't know if I would want...
Read moreAbie is without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Tel Aviv. I’ve been wanting to visit for years but, for some reason, kept postponing—and now I regret not coming sooner! The entire experience was exceptional, from the service to the atmosphere, and, of course, the food.
We focused on a fish-based meal and started with a cured spanish mackerel dish. While Tel Aviv is known for its abundance of raw fish dishes, this one truly stood out—it was so good I almost ordered another portion, but we had more dishes on the way.
We ordered five dishes in total for two people. After the cured mackerel, we had a spinach salad with black pepper and persimmon, which was incredibly refreshing. Next came the standout of the evening: a leek dish that was creamy, rich, and texturally reminiscent of pasta—absolutely phenomenal. We then moved on to expertly prepared calamari and finished with perfectly cooked red mullet.
Every dish was outstanding, and the prices are remarkably reasonable for the quality and creativity of the food. I’m already looking forward to...
Read moreNice atmosphere - a star for that. There is a pretence of a unique menu, but the delivery is terrible. The food is mediocre at best.
I ordered the fish tartar & grilled rainbow trout (forel in Hebrew). The tartar was literally a tablespoon sized pile of chopped fish, weirdly seasoned, that did not taste fresh at all.
The trout was actually a small fillet of a different fish (99% sure this was Tilapia), 200 gr max, coal grilled. It is served with a small potato, 1 spring onion, a sliver of purple cabbage, like 7 green beans and a red hot chili pepper. All of the above were burned beyond recognition, and had so much coal dust and coarse sand all over that I am actually sure the whole thing probably fell into the grill and was rolled around in there a couple of times.
Grossly overpriced for every position, this place is a leading contender for smallest portions in Tel Aviv.
If this was anywhere relevant to tourist attractions, I'd say this was a tourist trap - but this is just a trap. If you're hungry - go literally anywhere else.
The atmosphere is...
