I love Ethiopian food and I have so far been to three different Ethiopian restaurants in Tel Aviv, and Balinjera was the best. The staff were super friendly and speak good English. The quality of the tibs was really top. I haven't had tibs that good in a long time. And I like how they have a meat dish with a few different veggie sides, whereas a lot of restaurants (even back home) tend to have only single meat dishes or huge combo's for two or more. It's nice to have the variety. The tibs dish could have even been split among two people who aren't super hungry, as it's a sizable meal for one. One of the tables got a large vegetarian combo and it looked delicious. Even with the vegetarian combos for one, they let you choose which ones you want. Shiro wat is my favorite vegetarian dish and theirs was outstanding. I would come and just get the shiro wat next time. But the other two veggie sides I chose were also delicious. They told me they make their injera on site, and it had such a great texture with that characteristic tart/sour flavor from the fermentation, but not too tart. I didn't ask them if it was 100% teff but I believe it was. I am not sure I will have time to visit again before I leave Israel, but on my next trip, I am definitely coming back here. If you're not familiar with Ethiopian food, this would be a great place to try, and I am sure they can explain the...
Read moreWe had the pleasure of eating dinner tonight at Balingera.
Having never before eaten Ethiopian food, we were very pleased to have Yisrael, one of the three brothers who own this restaurant, explain the different foods to us. He frowned on eating with cutlery; the whole experience, he said, was in scooping up the food with the injera, a gluten free traditional Ethiopian flat sour dough bread. He explained which foods were spicy and which were not.
What a great experience!! The food was very tasty, the portions were large, and the price, relatively inexpensive.
Yisrael was very attentive to our needs. I watched him and could see his great rapport with other diners.
We had a wonderfully delightful time.
We all 4 of us agree that you visit this restaurant. You won't be...

We went to balinjira three days in a row and brought friends who all loved, the experience was perfect every time. We had lunch, dinner and brunch, sitting inside and outside, superb vibe. 5 stars for: food, presentation, service, atmosphere, hospitality and concept. I've eaten Ethiopian food at dozens of places around the world, balinjira is the most fun, great crowd scene, even just to hang at. The front house team was so fun and attractive, also offered to top all of our dishes, which is a first.
