Ever since an Israeli introduced me to what good hummus REALLY is, I can't enjoy the stuff sold in supermarket tubs that are so popular in the US. I like my hummus simple with tender whole chickpeas on top, garnished with pure extra virgin olive oil and served with fresh fluffy pita, all warm because why would I bother getting it at a restaurant if I wanted it cold like in the states with too much garlic to cover up too much citric acid, all to be eaten out of the fridge with a piece of flour cardboard or prepackaged carrot sticks. Most of the places I've been to here are good and some excellent, but it's also very regionally varied and every 5-star reviewer claims they're eating the best hummus in all of Israel! I've been to 6 hummusiyas in the past week, throughout the north and in/around TLV, but it's hard to compare one hummus with another so I just rate it based on how it satisfies my senses overall when I'm hungry. Abu Dabi's hummus itself was ok, creamy, soft beans, decent taste but not enough deep umami flavor. At least it was warm. The pita was so-so, nothing I'd repeat. No olives and the pickles could use an upgrade. The schug was the red kind, not fresh I'm guessing since it was already on the table in a metal condiment pot and tasted of stale dried chilis. Service was good but unfortunately, the food was a miss on this particular day.
Update - Today, I tried Abu Hassan and Garger HaZahav and I actually think Abu Dabi's was better than both, although all 3 are quite different. Still, to be fair, since I can't give 3.5 stars, I'll say 4 stars and hope they improve...
Read moreIncredible food here. Fresh ingredients as well as cooking things fresh on the day makes the food here incredibly tasty. The falafels are like homemade, the hummus is delicious, and the deep fried cauliflower👌. The pita is endless as well as the side of sliced pickles, raw onions and pickled pepperoncinis. There is a squeezee bottle of garlic lemon juice and a jar of hot chillies in oil at every. Each falafel is only 2 shekels. You also end your meal with a complimentary cup of coffee. My family came here to eat twice in the two days we had left in Tel Aviv. It is only 5 minutes walking distance from the Dizengoff Center. It is a vegetarian restaurant but such amazing food! We highly recommend this place. The staff are friendly and helpful since the menu is only in Hebrew! We even received complimentary desserts our...
Read moreThe hummus is OK, nothing extraordinary. It just isn't light enough and I feel like there's something missing in it, but there are a few pros to this place, at least delivery wise. First and foremost, the delivery is LIGHTNING FAST. It arrived within 20 minutes (using Wolt) and the hummus itself and the pita bread were both still hot. The plate/dish size is admirable, and more than enough to feel sated. Each portion gets two pitas, a pickle (well, half a pickle to be precise), olives and a quarter of an onion (an incredibly fresh one). While this wasn't anything unforgettable, I can't say that I had a bad time ordering from this place. As I said, the delivery was very fast and the food was okay, and more than enough to calm...
