The first meal after landing has to be something with pita. The falafels have a crunchy crust outside and are soft and vividly green inside. The combination of tahini, humus, and hot sauce is just right to the point. Wonderful.
And the Sabich next door owned by the same shop is so enticing. Well, that’s the what the half-pita option for— GET BOTH!
Wow. That just brought tastiness to the next-level! Even though I am half full after the half falafel pita, every bite of the sabich— Tahini, cheese, fried eggplant, hard boiled egg (seriously, how can hard boiled egg yolk taste so good), tomato salad, the pita bread, hummus, amba, sauces and spices that I don’t even know their names… Every ingredient is so different and flavorful on its own, and yet together they compose such a harmony.
No wonder the place always has two lines and a crowd munching on the spot. I, for example, cannot resist the temptation of either counter, cannot think about letting the wonderful food cool down in my hands, and cannot worry about digging into the pita with a smeared face on a busy street. Very fast service. Totally...
Read moreThis place was on a list of the best cheap eats in Tel Aviv. It fed me and my wife for 44 shekels, which is like $12. The place looks like a classic. I waited in line for about 15 minutes and watched the man make pitas and bowls for clients ahead of me. There is no English menu, and I didn’t want to be the obnoxious tourist who started blindly speaking to the boss in English. I walked up and signaled two with my hand. He proceeded to go into flow state - slathering hummus, tahini, spicy sauce into the pita and stuffing it with fried eggplant, potato, an egg, tomatoes, onions, parsley and the works. I was stuffed and the fried eggplant was the highlight. Grace didn’t like it as much, but her back was also hurting so I think that took away from her experience. I finished mine and ate the rest of hers. I would say though that the fresh parsley isn’t something that I really enjoy. I took mine out toward the end. Overall, a solid meal well...
Read moreFrischman is a pair of street food stalls serving pita sandwiches, and you can have your pick between falafel on the left or sabich on the right! Their sabich menu looked more intriguing to me, so I swung right and ordered the half sabich with hummus & cheese. The pita sandwich turned out to be a work of art. It was layered with numerous different sauces including hummus, tahini, amba, and chili crisp, along with different salads (cabbage, tomatoes, herbs, onions), and crumbled feta cheese. But of course, a sabich wouldn’t be sabich without fried eggplant and egg, and the colorful combination bursted out of the pita in a beautiful gestalt. The sandwich was built on a perfectly soft, chewy, fluffy pita bread, and you could help yourself at the counter to numerous different pickles to go with the...
