Aguglia Persa - cucina Siciliana alla brace - — Restaurant in Agrigento

The restaurant is beautiful. Although it was a cool day and we couldn’t sit in the garden, the table that we had next to windows with views of the garden brought the garden into the interior. Recommendations for wine were excellent. The wine list is very nice and of moderate length. There weren’t the usual Grillos and Nero’Davolas on the list, but there were very interesting alternatives that matched well with our dinner. Several of us ate the fish tartare appetizer. It was served over arugula with fresh slices of orange. Delicious. One ate the steak and thought it was well cooked but a little tough. It was served with grilled eggplants, onions, potatos and fennel. All very good although she doesn’t care for eggplant. One of us had the pasta with octopus and every bite was eaten. Two of us had the grouper with grilled lettuce. The grouper was perfectly cooked with crispy skin. It was also served with potatoes that were delicious. We shared the cheese plate from Sicily for desert. All very interesting cheeses. One of us had a glass of recommended sparkling Sicilian wine to accompany the cheeses. The wine matched very well. All in all, good service, nice...

I am sorry while the food at a restaurant is the most important thing service is also very important. I never got a chance to try the food because I was refused service unless I was willing to sit outside. I had just called the restaurant to make sure they were open only a few minutes before I arrived. I was not told they were “full” until I got there. They told me they could serve me outside although it was too cold to eat outside. Just then a family of four came in and they seated them inside right away. There was no effort to apologize that they wouldn’t be able to serve me inside. The hostess acted like I was a nuisance. I am sure the owner will try and talk their way out of this, but I am telling you the truth.

I had a couple of great meals in Agrigento with great service, both at SAL 8 and Kalos. Wonderful food...

Unfortunately we had a bad experience without even trying out their food! We had made an online reservation and had a confirmed table for the outdoor dining area (which is what we specifically wanted) for 8:30pm on August 2nd. We were there on time, noticed quite a few, at least 7-8 tables in the garden area empty. And were then told by one of the staff that they could not accommodate us in the garden but would seat us inside. I did not agree and so we left the restaurant. I called in a few minutes to explain what had happened to the manager and was told that I could come back and that they would now have a table for us in the garden area!! Not sure what the reason was for denying us earlier? We are tourists and were definitely hoping for a...
